Lowland League General Discussion

I am sure Cumbernauld Colts consistently vote against more promotion / relegation to Lowland League and also for the B teams so only wanting sporting integrity when it may affect them but happy to take the B teams cash and block any more than 1 West and East Premier teams coming up each season and challenging for the top spots in the league.

I was going to try and see what Tier 6 would look like just using the Scotscores rankings.

Its always a bit of a guesstimate, but they really need to look at how they weigh some of the values if Sauchie end up 3rd best team from the East of Scotland area and Beith find themselves behind St Cadoc's, Largs, Clydebank.

It's also based on margins of victory and includes cup games so it's unlikely to match the league tables. Broxburn lost lots of ranking points to Glenrothes in the cup, Beith lost big points due to defeat v Arthurlie after the title was won.

Presumably in the absence of any hard and fast rules about who should be asked if spaces in the come available, the SPFL have invited their recent former members and the best of the LL/HL.

Despite the absence of a hard and fast rule it has been the same every season since 2016-17 with the top 4 in the LL being invited, which has meant recent former members of the SPFL have missed out, bit strange for it to change this season eh.

Would be good if someone can dig out the results of those votes and see whether the proper top 4 are good guys or bad guys...

Looks like it’s Boness’s turn today to miss out on the League Cup groups for no apparent reason.

Highland league - Buckie and Brechin

Lowland league - East Kilbride

i wonder why Brechin get in over Boness? Brutal.

Why the two red dots for this question from gbyh?

He’s not even a Bo’ness supporter and it appears his uncertainty in his post is answered later. Some of you guys get angry just looking at your own shadow!

Did the lowland league board not question the spfl on this ?

No idea, hopefully the story gains a bit of traction in the media.

Lowland and Highland probably found out the same time the public statement announcing the changes went out.

If the league AGM was on Monday and its resorted to individual clubs making statements probably don't have much consensus within the league.

🌹🌹 LINLITHGOW ROSE CLUB STATEMENT – SPFL TRUST TROPHY 🌹🌹

Following the SPFL Board press release on Monday, we at Linlithgow Rose are disappointed to note that the Board has chosen to overlook sporting merit in order to invite teams into the Trust Trophy on the basis that they are former SPFL member clubs.

The reputation of the game in Scotland is put at risk when history rather than merit becomes a primary reason for decision making at the highest levels of Scottish football governance.

If league positions after 34 matches are to count for nothing, we at Linlithgow Rose are left to wonder - what does count? What will count going forward? How can we sit back and say to our management team, players, sponsors and supporters that we think it’s ok to govern football in this way?

There are obvious financial impacts and imbalances which spread across the Lowland League as a result of decisions taken by the SPFL Board – a position not replicated in the Highland League. It is our view that these impacts threaten the financial fair play of the league in which we compete and call on the SFA to intervene and mediate a solution to resolve this issue.

Seems to be more anger from this than last years league cup decision, for this year I can't see any reversal, but if enough pressure is put on the SFA(which may require some spfl club support) then a possible rule update for spfl cups will require that when the spfl chooses to include non-spfl clubs within its cups then these will be allocated to pyramid clubs based on final finishing positions in the previous season,

That's what they get for voting yes to B teams 😁

They obviously didn't sort out the same agreement Cowdenbeath got for their vote, that was silly of them! 😉

Are there teams who don’t seek to compete at the top of the league ?
I think every team sets out to do the best it can and finance is a massive part of that but if Gretna unexpectedly found themselves at the top of the league, are Tranent suggesting they wouldn’t be interested in winning it ?
