Asked for comment Sunak said m”Thatcher, Thatcher, Thatcher. Falklands, miners strike, lady’s not for turning.”

He then further added “Thatcher, Thatcher, Maggie Thatcher, Thatcher”

The debate is heating up now. Truss has commented “handbag, blue skirt suit, tax cuts, Thatcher, Thatcher”

Any TV debate is going to end up as them both just shouting Thatcher at each other, isn't it? Which of course is all it will take to have the faithful cheering and waving a flag.

This is what Truss has been doing for the last 6 years,

2016-17: With new PM Theresa May in office, Truss is moved into the role of justice secretary, which she's in for just under a year

2017-19: Arguably the most striking role, considering her claims this morning, Truss takes up a post as the Treasury's chief secretary from 2017 right up until May is replaced by Boris Johnson

2019-21: Under Johnson, Truss becomes the international trade secretary – a role she often refers to as proof of her post-Brexit achievements

2019-present: Alongside her trade role, Truss becomes the government's minister for women and equalities in 2019 and still holds the role today

And this is what she has announced this morning;

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has said that the "consensus" on economic policy over the last two decades in the UK has not "delivered growth".

So you've failed for the last 6 years and want promotion.............

Neither of them are strong enough characters to have their own way of doing things.

Thatcherism is in the past, why go back to something that has been superseded.

Both of them should have new fresh visions on how to run the Party and run the country. Is this another journey back to the good old days when things were less complicated for Conservatives. It was brutal back then and they were all stabbing each other in the back. Thatcher purged the party of anyone who she thought would get in the way, the wets she called them. Would Truss or Sunak do the same?

Did Johnson not purge all the One Nation Tories and anyone with a moral compass in 2019? The political descendants of Heseltine and Clarke all deselected and booted out. So all that's left are slavering far right eejits, ex UKIP loonballs and pathetic flag shaggers.

It's what they do. Another harking back to the past along the same lines as was used in the Brexit campaign. Never mind that there never was a Golden Age, the signs and symbols being used are going for the same "feel".

I doubt it. There seems to be massive divisions (more than usual) in the aftermath of Johnson.

Weird how Baroness "Boo-hoo I'm so sad and angry about all the lying and partying" of Convincing TearsandSnotters feels able to set aside all those genuine and not at contrived performances to back law breaker, lie defender and fixed penalty notice recipient Rishi, isn't it?

Truss saying the last 20 years of economic policy haven't delivered. Interesting. Are there any other options available?

#youYes yet

Pretending she hasn't been part of the Tory government who made that policy.

That cartoon of the bloke fucking the dirt on top Thatcher's grave is actually a depiction of something that Sunak dreams about nightly.

Didn't Limmy draw that?

Amazed that only 39% of Tory members are over 65.

Still about twice the proportion of the UK population over that age bracket.
