Just a day left for this guys. I'm all caught up now up to this point, everything is recorded apart from the totals. Some interesting results so far with the top 15 looking pretty close and perhaps some surprising omissions.

It might vary on a given day but No.1 will always be Cinema Paradiso

  1. Cinema Paradiso (always makes me cry)
  2. Goodfellas
  3. One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
  4. Dune (1984 - David Lynch version)
  5. Blade Runner
  6. Goodbye Pork Pie (NZ road movie - 1981)
  7. Apocalypse Now
  8. Once Upon a Time in America
  9. Judgement at Nuremburg (Even after the car crash Monty Clift was still a good looking guy!)
  10. Unforgiven

Can't believe I've omitted The Godfather 1&2, chosen Once Upon A Time In America and not one of Leone's westerns. The only one unlikely to be in most folks Top 100 is Goodbye Pork Pie  which I'd recommend it's a road movie about a guy who gets a Dear John letter from his girl and sets off in a stolen Mini to win her back, nothing that's not really been in every other road movie but the setting (New Zealand) makes it a bit special.

:offtopic  Am I the only person in the universe who found the casting of Morgan Freeman as Red in The Shawshank Redemption just too tokenistic in 1940s New England?

2001 A Space Odyssey

Once Upon A Time In America

Dr Strangelove

Blade Runner

Mulholland Drive

Battle of Algiers

Aguirre Wrath of God

Just under 400 films were nominated, thanks to everyone that took part, especially those who post in the main film thread which was the inspiration for this poll. In particular the posters who really put a bit of thought behind the reviews, the likes of @Detournement @accies1874 @MSU plus others. Also thanks to @JustOneCornetto for providing the top 50 from 10 years ago.

Countdown begins shortly.

Interesting that you chose Goodbye Pork Pie.

I watched it as a kid back in the early 80s, on a rented VHS, and I loved it. I revisited it on DVD a few years ago but I felt that it hadn't stood the test of time.

Still, any film that has Barry from Bad Taste in it is fine by me.

I used to love this when it came out on VHS but watched a couple of months ago on Netflix and I didnt find it anywhere as funny as I did back in the day.

Possibly says more about me than the film though 😂

100th (new entry)

Hot Fuzz (2007) Wright

1481301038-hot-fuzz.thumb.jpg.340b3929b30e18dc81751a7698422d6e.jpg

"You do know that there are more guns in the country than there are in the city. Everyone and their mums is packin' round 'ere"

Part 2 of Pegg and Frost's Cornetto Trilogy, following on from Shaun of The Dead and proceeding The World's End. PC Angel is sent out to the sticks and unravels a sinister conspiracy. More of a homage to over the top action films than a parody or a spoof, you're probably a bit boring if you don't find this one at least a little bit fun.

99th (new entry)

Saving Private Ryan (1998) Spielberg

Saving-Private-Ryan-1.thumb.jpg.b09e88f326823a3378af6aeb532381bf.jpg

"You can tell her that when you found me, I was with the only brothers I had left"

The definition of a blockbuster movie and one of the biggest critical and commercial successes in the 90's. This story of a group of soldiers searching for a needle in a haystack, a young Private who unbeknown to him, has lost all his siblings, won 5 Oscars including a Best Director statue for Spielberg. Remembered most for that incredible D-Day landing scene.
