Bully Wee Villa
VI is decent but II is the best by some distance IMO. I do feel that it's undermined by them totally ruining the brilliant ending in the next film, though. Wee-Bey
17th (new entry) The Thing (1982) Carpenter "I don't know what the hell's in there, but it's weird and pissed off whatever it is" Kurt Russell and his research team in Antarctica are picked off one by one by The Thing, an alien that can assume the appearance of the people it kills, slowly ratcheting up the tension and mistrust. Panned as garbage when it was initially released, it's been critically reevaluated as one of the most important and influential horror films.
Wee-Bey
16th (new entry) Das Leben Der Anderen (2006) Von Donnersmarck "To HGW XX/7, in gratitude" The highest ranked foreign language film and the 2nd highest new entry on the list is The Lives Of Others. In Cold War East Berlin, Stasi Captain Wiesler is assigned to spy on a playwright and his girlfriend. An intimate portrayal of oppression, betrayal, love and integrity as Weisler sees a different way to live.
Wee-Bey
15th (down 7) The Departed (2006) Scorsese "One of us had to die, with me, it tends to be the other guy" Marty finally wins the statue for Best Director as he moves Infernal Affairs to Boston, as the race is on between the police and the Irish Mob to find their respective rats. Featuring an all star cast putting in some top performances, including Jack Nicholson as Frank Costello/Whitey Bulger.

Again, maybe unpopular but the original is better IMO (although the Departed is also a quality film).

I'd agree with you on this but it is close. It's probably worth pointing out that The Departed isn't just a typical "English language remake" and is actually a very different film in tone, has much more focus on different characters and has a slightly different story. I can't agree with you on Star Trek VI v II because i can't tell the difference between those shades of shite.

I agree with all the foreign language choices, but I'm surprised that Downfall didn't make the list... I wonder how Hitler would react?

Which means Shichinin No Samurai (aka Seven Samurai) isn't on the top 100? I demand a recount. ETA..I gave it 10, Aim Here gave it 3 and Eednud gave it 2 for a total of 15. They used the footage to manipulate the censor into leaving the rest of the scene as it as was with the only change being no eye pop.

Easily the two best movies in the whole series. Khan coming in at all, never mind number 18, is a very special treat. I saw it at the cinema last year and that was an utter highlight, and by far the busiest I have seen a cinema in many years.

I put your pick as Shichinin No Samurai instead of 7 Samurai then when it was picked 200 films later, I've quickly scrolled through the list looking for a 7, not found one and put it as a new entry. Like an idiot. It should be no. 53. I'll add it in later today and bump the rest up one. Unlucky Catch Me If You Can fans, you've been caught by 7 dudes with swords. Edited January 6, 2023 by Slim Charles. All caught up now, I'll do the next couple then the full Top 10 countdown tonight.
Wee-Bey
13th (down 2) Reservoir Dogs (1992) Tarantino "You ever listen to K-Billy's 'Super Sounds of the Seventies' weekend ? It's my favourite." Quentin Tarantino bursts on to the scene with this debut tale of a diamond heist gone wrong, with all the features we've come to associate with his catalogue, bloody often stylized violence, witty often irrelevant dialogue and homages to pop culture and other films.
Ludo*1
Seeing Star Trek in a list of the top 100 films voted by P&B'ers is a low point for this site.
