Cove v QP

Phenomenal performance. The Davidson goal is just outrageous. Kept the ball for about half an hour and then crashed it in from the edge of the box.

Seven of those starters finished twenty-one points behind Airdrie and eight points behind Montrose. Of the four who didn’t, two are young loanees, one signed from Peterhead and the other signed from relegated Dunfermline. Two of our subs came from Cambuslang Rangers and Arthurlie. Gretna, indeed.

It’s a shame that none of it matters because Dundee, Ayr and Thistle have more fans than us.

How did Healy look when he came on?

Impressive again.

Really encouraged by the pace of improvement in our first team, and the development structure. I'm quite sure the folly of it all will be explained to us again shortly.

That was ridiculous. Simon Murray hasn’t looked as prolific since he signed, an outrageous performance to add to an already tremendous season for him. For all that Cove are sitting 8th, they had the 3rd best home record in the division and we destroyed them.

What an exciting season it’s shaping up to be.

The fact that 7 of those were there last season shows the work that OC and his team have done over summer and this season so far. Trusted the players and rewarded with their development.

We won’t win every game (probably)  but what we as fans can be assured of, is that we have a manager who gets it and has created a team that excites, plays the right way and is getting better with each passing week. We look mentally stronger and hungrier with each passing week.

Of course being top of the pile by 4 points is a fantastic achievement so far but the standard of football in the last 2-3 months has been utterly incredible. We started the season as a team who were all gung-ho going forward but suffered with a lot of naivety defensively which got fully exposed away at Ayr in October. In hindsight, that result was coming and ultimately it’s been a blessing in disguise. Coyle recognised the issues at the back and has tweaked accordingly without the frontline losing its firepower. If anything, the frontline has been enhanced massively.

It’s been mentioned already but 7 of today’s lineup were struggling to gain wins over the likes of east fife and Clyde and those include;

Callum Ferrie- Criticised for several key errors last year and badly exposed in aerial scenarios

Jake Davidson- An unspectacular squad player at best last year which consisted of a grand total of 1 game at right back. Looked lost in midfield

Tommy Robson- Was left wanting in a number of occasions throughout the first half of last season. Positional sense was non existent and questionable final ball

Lee Kilday- Miles off it for large parts of the season, including a disaster at home to Alloa which finished 4-3. Struggled badly with injuries, with it being a lottery whether he made it through 90 minutes

Jack Thomson- Looked quite simply a youth player playing in men’s football last year. Rash in the tackle and didn’t add much to the forward play

Simon Murray- Injury prone, looked like he had bulked up too much which seemed to have affected his pace for large parts of last season. Rarely had composure in front of goal

Charlie Fox - Phenomenal season but was somehow bombed out of the squad by Ellis for 2 months which impacted on results a significant amount for the worse

You look at the descriptions of those players from last season and you see how amazing they’re performing nowadays reinforces how critical a decent manager still is at this level, even if you have a pot of money. You can have all the talent in the world but without a proper coach, it’ll get you nowhere. An unbelievable season it’s been so far for everyone involved
