The only important thing today is that we got three points, especially with Hearts and Hibs tripping up. Saying that, it clearly wasn’t a very good performance, especially with Saints playing almost the full game with ten men.

I couldn’t tell at the game if that header at the end was saved by Roos or came back off the bar. If it was a save, it was outstanding. Roos was very good again today and, frankly, I just don’t understand the strength of some of the criticism from our support for him. I’m not pretending he is flawless, but he is much better at this level than some of our fans like to make out.

I was most impressed by Miovski from the outfield players. Some really intelligent touches, good movement, and got involved physically even though that isn’t his natural game.

Saints, to their credit, had a good shape with ten men and did still pose something of a threat over the top, mostly through May, until half-time. Our strongest period, I felt, was the 20 minutes or so after half-time. We were keeping the ball well at that point and beginning to move Saints out of their shape a bit, but still not creating too much when the opportunities arose. Understandably, the fans got a bit nervous as the game entered the final stages without a second goal, and that probably filtered through to the players. It was an uncomfortable ending and on another day Saints maybe nick something.

The only blot on the day was Shinnie’s cheap red card. At least it will only be one game, but he will be a miss next Saturday.

Oh, and the referee was hopeless, for both teams. We benefited a bit from his incompetence in the first half, I felt, but then he went through a bizarre spell in the second half of just ignoring blatant fouls on our players. It shouldn’t have been a particularly difficult game to referee but he managed to succeed in making it so.

We changed to a 4-4-1 with Stevie May on the left of midfield and basically defended our box. Totally moronic considering we’d had a couple of chances on the break in the first half and not really looked under major pressure.
 

Thought Coulson was quietly decent today as well. Can’t have given the ball away too many times.

Yeah, you are probably right. There were a couple of moments in the first half when May was causing problems on the shoulder of our defence. He was a good outball for you and forced us to play a bit deeper. May going wide essentially allowed our defence to move 15 yards or so up the pitch without the ball, and you started to get properly hemmed in for basically the first time since the red card.

Disappointed in the result but also won £200 because Aberdeen won so overall I’d rank that as a neutral.

Their supporters were thrown out the Muirton at about 6 as well because a minority simply couldn't behave themselves. Going up to and screaming in Saints fans faces etc. So all their fans were removed. 

First time I've ever seen the staff call the whole security team down to the Muirton to remove fans.

As for the football. Did Aberdeen deserve to win? Maybe aye, maye no? Did they take a chance? Absolutely. 

Did Hallberg miss one good chance and one incredible chance? I very much think so! 

Was it an inevitable result at home under Davidson. Absofuckinglutely.

My weekly VAR moan. When the referee gave the penalty, surely he has to immediately red card Considine for denying a goalscoring opportunity with no attempt to play the ball? My understanding is the removal of double jeopardy only applies if there is a genuine attempt to play the ball?

So why does he wait? VAR isn't in place to make decisions for referees. This was an opportunity for VAR to work as it should in correcting a clear and obvious error (to award a penalty) but instead we have an excessive delay and then confusion over why we are waiting for a red card that everyone is anticipating.

As for the game, actually pretty pleased with the performance given we played 94 minutes of football with 10 men. Largely kept Aberdeen at bay but retained an attacking threat. The only really disappointing period was after Davidson had got his hands on them at half-time.

Substitutions were a bit strange but they didn't have a massive negative impact and we should be used to them by now under this manager. Feel we merited a point.

Gordon and McGowan both looked very comfortable as a two and Phillips was excellent again. Already feel he's not going to sign another contract here though. This squad, unburdened by predictability, is capable. Let's get another win on the board, preferably next week, then start to plan ahead both tactically and in terms of players that will be here next season.
