I have nothing to back it up other than a throwaway comment from the commentator in one of the Norway games in March but apparently they're good from set pieces

Could copy the Spanish approach which seemed to work quite well for them in March.

I just realised today we will have won all of our home games in the last calendar year as of 8-Jun with victories over Armenia, Ukraine, Ireland, Cyprus and Spain produced a 12 - 1 aggregate.

Beating Georgia at Hampden on 20-Jun would be a nice way to mark a good achievement by the team and keep momentum going.

Am I reading the ssc email right. You can get a pint in the ground before the next couple home games? (North/south stand and only if you book)

If you book and pay £156 per person for the Georgia game. It's their new hospitality section, the Terrace.

And it's just wrong. Alcohol should be available to either everyone or noone within the stadium.

Wealth should not be an issue.

The fact there is a still an alcohol ban in place in stadiums in Scotland is fairly illustrative of the lack of ambition or any forward thinking attached to the game here. Safe-standing areas, stadium bars along with pre-match entertainment (with profits generated going to clubs), and summer football (much more pleasant for watching games and not competing against the ridiculous English Premier League for televised slots for example) all issues that could be introduced and the success/impact assessed. At international level, taking games round the country, strategic thinking and solutions to address Hampden's issues, looking at the alcohol ban (I think UEFA have lifted the ban on all UEFA competitions/qualifiers - don't think was ever extended by FIFA), and fan input on pre-game, half time and post goal stadium music (lots of supporter's clubs are consulted on this; I imagine a reaction by many to feckin Darude/Sandstorm) are just some things that could be considered.

But no, we copy the (then) league names of the English league, we change nothing, we take any offer Sky puts forward etc etc. SFA and the SPFL both equally culpable in happily sticking to the status quo and not wishing to deviate from the "tried and trusted" . Our ruling bodies and 75 year old generational lower league club chairman know best - why consult fans and get their input; what do they know?

The SFA and SPFL aren't the ones imposing an alcohol ban.

The emergency act remains in place and the police recommend that the ban stays in place.

However similarly to the SRU getting the the alcohol ban lifted for Murrayfield in 2007, the SFA for the national team and the SPFL for league games can ask the SG to re-introduce - they have elected not to till date despite alcohol being offered at pretty much every other organised event in Scotland, pubs serving drinks around stadiums, and fans in England and across Europe being able to happily enjoy a drink when in the grounds.

If the SFA and the SPFL really wanted to see a re-introduction am pretty sure it would happen.

While the alcohol ban is obviously still controversial, of greater concern to me is the use of searches on the way in. It came in just after COVID and has remained. It's intrusive, discriminatory and needless.

The SFA asked for it to be re-introduced less than five years ago, and the Justice Secretary at the time, now the First Minister, said no.

https://www.scotsman.com/news/crime/humza-yousaf-rules-out-return-of-alcohol-to-scottish-football-211761

that says no formal request had been made. And even if it had, one request 5 years ago with no apparent suggestion of a pilot re-introduction hardly an open and shut case. Would love to hear the reasons for maintaining the ban following a formal request when considered against all the other countries/events who have no such ban.

Anyway, I would say the laughable argument amongst many remains - "if you can't go 2 hours without needing a drink, then there is something wrong with you"....

Scotland are reported to be holding a training camp in La Finca ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifying double header in June as they seek to learn from the mistakes made last year in their preparations for the World Cup playoff semi-final defeat to Ukraine.

Quote

It was a completely unusual experience for all of us having such an important game and the gap in between. We didn’t do a training camp last year, so this year we are doing it. That’s the sign of the growth of the squad. Not only on the park, but also off the park. We are learning from our mistakes. That’s everyone. That’s us coming together. When we have a positive result, we go back and see why. If we have a bad result, we’ll go back and see what we can we change as players. The staff will get together and say the same.

If we want to get to the major tournaments, we need to just park the excuses. There will be absolutely no question that the players, whether some need a rest more than others and some need to train more than others, we’ll be extremely prepared for that game against Norway on June 17. It definitely does make a big difference. Obviously, there are a lot of us who are spoiled down here (Premier League) with facilities, hotels and everything else. It’s absolutely perfect. We’re not expecting that one bit with Scotland as we know we are from a small country but we also know the impact the perfect preparation can have.

We were delighted with the changes in the last camp. It contributed to two wins (Lesser Hampden) and if we can deliver performances and results on the park then I am sure the SFA and everyone involved will more than back us moving forward. As players, we’re pretty low maintenance. We’re all just so proud to play for Scotland. That doesn’t change, no matter where we’re staying.

That’s an excellent read and done a good job of alleviating a decent chunk of the fear about the timings of these games.

This double header is such a massive opportunity to really grab hold of qualification. Good to see the players and staff seem To fully realise it. Buzzing for the games now.
