Conference League: The Vote

Recommended Posts

The manager's off and the suits won't be forcing anything through to get their colts a shot of more than five minutes of first-team football in the future.

What a bad day this is turning out to be for the self-appointed "good guys" of Scottish football.

Hopefully they leave the lowland league now and forever.

We just cant compromise sporting integrity in the leagues.

Surely even the old firm must see it isnt the way to get young players improving. The loan system is perfect for ability placement and a proper reserve league with no restrictions should be the way forward.

It was never about developing young players though.

We're likely to see a petty backlash from Rangers & Celtic now because of this aren't we? The Old Firm ticket tit for tat you ticket nonsense evidence that they're unable to act without throwing the toys out the pram.

They've not got what they wanted so when it comes to something that'll benefit the wider group they'll vote it down.

It's honestly mental that after all the conversations about league construction ANOTHER LEAGUE was the idea put forward and lobbied for by the SPFL.

Rangers and Celtic have both been relatively quiet about this one - the only major thing that came out of either club was Beale basically trashing the idea. I think both of them have had changes in their youth set-ups recently so they may not be quite as persistent with it this time.

Beale was not trashing the conference league idea. in fact he was lobbying for a lot of the current restrictions of the lowland league to be removed

For me, I would like a programme that is more creative and bespoke and can do. The club are really pushing, with other clubs, to get the teams in the pyramid

If an academy and B team is there to support the first team, I don’t like a programme stopping the likes of Hagi and McCrorie playing games. I think it should be open age

Beale directly coming out and saying he wants Rangers B with no squad restrictions in the pyramid was unusual because no matter the issue from Elite Academies to TV deals there is usually very little official comment from either half of the OF. Beale kind of shot his bolt here though since this whole process of getting their B teams in the pyraid has been a long gradual process. But Beale basically admits the long term aim is to erode any concessions that were made to establish the conference league.

The irony of a guy who could well be completely out of Scottish football by Christmas laying down the law isn't lost on me.

One promotion spot plus play-offs seems perfectly reasonable for a 10 team league. Inverness, Ross County, Livingston and Gretna have all "done a Luton" in the last 30 years or so.

In some ways we've done it twice, bottom of the SPFL to the Premiership. The initial rise and then the post-demotion rise albeit that took a bit longer
