Clyde Season 23/24

Recommended Posts

As grim as it is, I think we have to accept that the only ‘impressive’ signings we’re making now will be if we can get some good loan players in. Given our apparent budget issues and our lowly status, I’m not at all confident of getting anywhere close to the cream of any crop there either.

Wasn’t that long ago we were turning our noses up at a Jnr player scoring 40 goals half way through a season.
Went on to sign for QP and make the first team.

Now signing Uni players…. and sadly not from Stirling.

As far as I am aware Williamson wasn’t on the table for us

As per JD

needs to learn about the physicality of professional football and ball retention

in other words

1. he is powder puff

2. the ball will be bouncing all over the place when it gets up to him

As with all players will give him a chance but sounds like too big a jump for him and another totally underwhelming signing

Each signing is like another nail in the coffin of double relegation

At L2 level you need players who have been round the block and had 200+ games at this level and above

We don’t have enough of them.  Sure the young guys might surprise us and take the league by storm but feeling is they likely won’t and most Will be s***

The management team were alerted to him and didn’t bother having him watched. QP swooped in.

The management team at the time were alerted to scores of players and didn’t take any of them on board. Lennon didn’t want to work with the recruitment team and went out his way to source his own players. The worst part is the board let him.

That’s a different scenario to turning our nose up at him.

Any one of these players could individually turn out to be decent.

However, as a cumulative group of players, it's an absolute disaster. There's a reason no other team is assembling this sort of squad.

The only hope is that we still have a bit of cash left over to get some proper loanees, rather than the usual freebies. Surely we've not spent much cash putting this group together?

We need some loanees that have played the game at pro level for a few years

some L1 or champ players who for whatever reason aren’t getting a game

However expect any loanees we get will be the usual 18-19 year olds from PL who have never played a pro league game

It wasn’t the much fabled recruitment team who alerted him. But point taken.

Probably not spent much cash. But that’s not the point if we’ve spent all we have.

And who can’t get in the B team

I'll be honest, Dylan Duncan looked good in what I saw from the Paul Kelly cup games. He was the big laddie wearing no. 10 that quite a few folk were talking about in here. However, from his level to the professional game is a huge jump and those games will give us absolutely no insight into how well he'll cope. Unfortunately, for every Scott Williamson or Aaron Healy, there are 20 Nathan Hendji's or Will Sewell's who just aren't capable of making the step up.

We really are in trouble if this is the type of signing we can muster. We've seen this exact thing time and again with no success whatsoever. Even after one competitive game, it's plain to see that with 2/3 injuries the squad is absolutely ruined. At this stage we should have a clear view of what the starting 11 is and be filling the squad out, instead we have a squad full of filler and are in desperate need of any quality whatsoever.

Horrendously mismanaged and hugely disappointing, as per usual.

Totally agree

The squad signed should be squad fillers rather than first picks

Seems like we have went about it the other way only we won’t sign any first picks now

So frightening that what we have now is likely to be first picks
