Scottish Junior Cup 2023-24

Recommended Posts

It's the First Round on Saturday.

Fixtures are here: Scottish Junior Cup Fixtures and Results (scottishjuniorfa.com)

What games are we fancying this weekend?

Who will lift the famous old trophy come June?

Can we go a thread where no one moans about this competition still happening? (I very much doubt it.)

Glad we've gotten a home tie, although it looks like it could be a tricky one against North Premier League opposition.

Some intriguing West v East ties for different reasons.

Johnstone Burgh v Dundee East Craigie. Fancy Burgh to win this for obvious reasons but East Craigie are semi finalists last season so will be no mugs and are doing decent in the East league too.

Cumbernauld United v Dundee North End

Cumbernauld going well in 2nd Division after their relegation last season but will North End be too tough an opponent even at home?

Brechin Victoria v Bellshill

Bellshill flying in 3rd Division. Will they be able to defeat a mid table East Region tier 6 team?

Some fun away trips for some Ayrshire teams supporters and players. Troon away to Blairgowrie, Ardeer at Buchanhaven Hearts, Maybole at Banchory St Ternan and Ardrossan away up at Nairn St Ninian.

Some evenly matched games with teams in the same league including Gartcairn v Rob Roy and Kilbirnie v Ashfield

Burghead bound on Saturday.

Looking forward to the journey and the game.

Leave 7am. Back 10.30pm all going well, probably more like midnight.

I'm hoping the Gow will have a good run.

The guys at the Vale all say that was one of the best ever trips (before my time at the club unfortunately) Have a great day and a safe trip.

Vale of Leven 2-1 Newmachar United.

A fantastic second half display sees us come from behind and reach the second round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Safe travels back up the road to Newmachar who were a thoroughly decent bunch of people, great visitors.

Nairn St Ninian 0-4 Ardrossan Winton Rovers

A very comfortable win for a well drilled visiting team who turned in a controlled and commanding performance against poor opposition.

A few great goals scored for Winton- lovely move for the second and excellent free kick for the coup de gras a few minutes from time.

Nairn are a nice welcoming set up & hope things on the park improve for them. Attendance 55-60.

Johnstone Burgh 3-0 Dundee East Craigie

Dundee teams coming to Renfrewshire and getting their arse handed to them has been a familiar theme in recent years, at all levels of Scottish football.

Let’s hope that continues in the next round, Dundee North End the latest to come down the road.

In a WOS forum thread it was mentioned the "prize money" was being increased, details seem to have made it into the SJFA rules. As I thought, it is a guarantee, though presumably the SJFA will cover any shortfall from the lack of gate receipts.

Still not great for those small clubs hosting teams travelling a fair distance. For example, the game above with Nairn v Ardrossan - 60 fans (let's say 50% concessions) means £300, minus £130 for the officials. That's £170 split two ways, but Ardrossan have a £310 guarantee so Nairn lose money. Surely better to spend less on prize money and more on helping smaller clubs...

  • 5 weeks later...

Excellent win against Maybole today, started poor, but from 20 minutes in or so we've been easily the better team and deserved our 3-2 win.

Next up Culter away, looking forward to it, but it won't be easy at all!

Lochee Harp v Irvine Meadow for me the day.

The Harp were my Great Grandfather's team. Popped his clogs in 1938 watching them.

Got an unlikely obituary in the Tully on account of this.

"Overcome by excitement..."

did you make it out alive?
