Does anyone use them on buses?

That might be about to change.

In Sicily recently absolutely nobody appeared to put them on in cars. I have no idea why.

And, why are seatbelts not provided on trains?

Seatbelts are most useful when rapid deceleration occurs. Trains tend to travel with too much momentum for this to occur.

I've always wondered this with buses.  They have seatbelts, but you never see anyone wearing them or indeed trying to enforce them being worn.

Does the law apply to buses?  It'd be a bit weird if it didn't.

Buses frequently don't have belts: generally go slowly, standing = OK, plus would get vandalised. (May be special rules on max speeds and belts upstairs on doubledeckers).

Coaches not decades old must have belts: passenger's responsibility to wear (guardian's for U14s) - not driver's to enforce. (Of course most adults and children don't...).

Nobody wears a seat belt here apart from me the wife and the three kids.

First time my mother in law got into a car I was driving, i put on my seatbelt and her words were

'Are you going to drive like a maniac?'

i've mentioned this before, but Thais have zero sence of safety. it's a scarely eye opening when you come here at first, but you get used to it.

Sometimes it's a religious thing. In India the reason was given as God will look after us.

Utter stupidity of course.

And this from a guy who admits to being a wee bit religious.

I usually wear one, but I've a habit of dozing off and then liable to fall off the seat.

Next to nobody dies on a train in a seatbelt-preventable accident.

Train accidents are thankfully few and far between, but I think a seatbelt might offer a bit of protection in the unlikely event of a derailment scenario.

A bit like thon whistle in the unlikely event your plane lands in water and you survive intact.
