AyrshireTon
Manchester United line up for a pre-match team photo before their match at Bayern Munich in 2001. The guy at far left wasn't a player, but some joker with a full kit who pretended to be part of a TV crew, and ran on in time to be in the photo. Flybhoy
Two instantly recognisable legends at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, both sadly no longer with us.
Flybhoy
Denmark at Mexico 86, sensational in the group stages taking maximum points against ourselves, West Germany and Uruguay, whom they battered 6-1, then inexplicably hammered 5-1 by Spain in the round of 16.

Flybhoy
Oman Biyik gets up a seemingly insane height to head the only goal as Cameroon stun Argentina in the opening match of the same tournament, pretty sure his brother was one of the two men they had sent off that day.

Flybhoy
Often goes unnoticed that the racist Palace fan, Matthew Simmons, who was a member of far right organisations, reacted in a similar way in court when found guilty of racially aggravated breach of the peace or something, leapt over the Dock and tried to have a swing at the prosecution lawyer. Cantona never hit the c**t hard enough.
Flybhoy
England v Tunisia at France 98 in the spectacular setting of Marseiles, before the Velodrome had its even more spectacular roof.
Flybhoy
The late Alan Ball and Ray Clemence lead England out at Windsor Park in 1975, apparently quite a big thing this fixture as it was the first time one of the home nations played in Belfast since the outbreak of 'The Troubles"
Flybhoy
Diego Maradona threads through an inch perfect pass for Claudio Cannigia to score the only goal of the round of 16 tie in Turin at Italia 90, my recollections of this match are how Brazil absolutely battered Argentina but couldn't finish any of their numerous chances and were undone by a sublime piece of skill by Maradona and a cool finish from CC, stories and rumours abounded in later years of the Argentinian physio giving 'spiked' water to Brazilian players when treating an injured player, something Diego hinted at in an interview a few years ago, probably bullshit but we'll never know.
Flybhoy
I never knew there was no tunnel in Aztec stadium in Mexico till I seen this iconic picture of England and Argentina emerging from the underground 'pit' prior to their legendary World Cup quarter final in 1986.
Flybhoy
Spain and Denmark in the 1984 European championship semi final played in Lyon, after a 1-1 the Spanish went to the final on penalties, the only player to miss was the magnificent Preban Elkjear, a personal favourite player of mine as a kid despite scoring a winner against Scotland at the World Cup two years later, absolutely brilliant and underrated striker.
Flybhoy
Contrasting emotions for the goalkeepers, Taffarel and Pagliuca at the end of the 1994 World Cup final penalty shoot out where Brazil edged out Italy .
Flybhoy
Brazil and Argentina drew 0-0 in this second group phase match in 1978 meaning, it came down to who scored the biggest win against Peru for a place in the final, the host nation having the benefit of playing last knowing how many goals they needed, nearly 50 years on there are still accusations of skullduggery and bribes as Argentina rattled six without reply against the Peruvians who it has been opined were less than 'up for it' .

Flybhoy
Marco Van Basten and Ruud Gullit being interviewed after scoring the goals in The Netherlands 2-0 win over the USSR in the final of Euro 88, poignantly and ironically played in the same stadium, the Olympistsdion in Munich where the Dutch had lost the 1974 World Cup final to hosts West Germany. Beyond mental that this is the only major international honour for a country synonymous with producing incredible players and coaches.
Molotov
@Flybhoy good article about Van Basten and the impact of the injury that effectively killed his career aged 28: https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/31/marco-van-basten-it-was-a-very-big-fall-and-a-really-dark-time
