Premiership Hot Potato 23/24

Aberdeen hold on to the potato after yet another abject performance. They will next travel to Fir Park to attempt to offload it to another long term holder in Motherwell. And I'm going, can hardly wait

Next Hot Potato Fixture

Saturday 16th March

Motherwell v Aberdeen (holders)

Seems like I brought a bit of fortune to the Dandies as they overcame Motherwell to offload the Hot Potato to the steelmen just in time for the international break. They can stick it in tin foil for a couple of weeks before they take on St Mirren.

VAR doesn’t even consider the potato when they disallow result altering goals.

Motherwell have two opportunities to punt the potato into the top six as their remaining fixtures are against Dundee and Hibs. Unfortunately for them, in trying to do so may mean the potato stays in the bottom six.

Aye the chances of the Tattie landing in the Top 6 look slim.

Best case scenario for it happening is probably Motherwell drawing with Dundee, Hibs beating St J, Dundee losing their last 2 and Motherwell giving it to Top 6 Hibs last pre split fixture.

If Motherwell beat Dundee then Dundee will have to beat 'Rangers' and then 'Rangers' fail to beat County for it to remain Top 6.

I think those are the only two scenarios that will see the tattie usurp the battle for the title and European slots as the focus of Top 6 football.

St Mirrens draw with Motherwell meant the Tattie stayed in Lanarkshire, only for a stirring comeback, completed by a 93rd minute winner against Dundee, meant the steelmen offloaded it to Dundee.

The potato was then slightly waterlogged last midweek (you nay have heard about this potatincident) meaning the next potato match was at Pittodrie.

Victory for the Dees and it would definitely end up in the bottom 6, a draw and depending on other results and the Top 6 was a possibility.

Hibs draw with Motherwell and draw at Pittodrie means

THE HOT POTATO WILL GO TO A TOP 6 SIDE.

Next Hot Potato match

Wednesday 17th April

Dundee (holders) vs 'Rangers'

So with Dundee being held to a draw by 'Rangers', they retain possession of the potato going into the Post Split fixtures.

They host Celtic on Sunday at the ScotFoam stadium.

Next Hot Potato Fixture

Come on Dundee.

The tattie remains firmly planted in the quagmire of a pitch at Dens - which, admittedly, looked a hell of a lot better today than it did last week. Will the Buddies take it to Paisley next weekend, or will it remain firmly planted?

Tattie still in the tattie field, odds on to remain there for its holidays unless the Dee's can offload at Tynecastle, Ibrox or at home to 4th spot chasing Killie on the final day.

Next match Hearts vs Dundee (holders)

Three successive defeats for Dundee since scraping into the Top 6 while holding the tattie mean that there are only four potential destinations for the Spud at the end of the season. St.Mirren and Celtic will not be crowned Hot Potato champions at the end of the campaign.

The permutations are as follows.

The next Hot Potato fixture is

'Rangers' vs Dundee on Tuesday.

Should Dundee retain the tattie in the firey hell of Mordor then they will set up a last day Spud Showdown with Kilmarnock.

Should Dundee win at Ibrox then 'Rangers' will take possession going into the last day where they face Hearts in a match off to see who can praise the King (Edward) the most.

From a personal point of view, it would be fitting if Dundee were to miss out on a European spot, at least had the solace of being potato kings for the season.

I can see what this is building to a mile away.

4th spot, European football, but finishing the season as winners of the dreaded Hot Potato. Oh, the shame!

European spots are discretionary and can be removed.
