Iv always liked him. You obviously see him more than me. Is he on the decline?

Yeah, him and Hyde both slowed down last year. Wouldn't be surprised if both retire.

Also released Siran Neal who was a special teams guy and as of 5 minutes ago starting centre Mitch Morse which is a surprise. Seems like it could be a clear the decks year with the big cap hits for Diggs and Von Miller. No point in releasing them this season and going full rebuild but don't expect either to be on the team in 2025.

Deonte Harty gone as well, less of a surprise.

Alohi Gillman was probably the Chargers best player on D last year and despite being UFA he isn't even on that list. Hopefully he goes under the radar a bit and they re-sign him, because there really isn't anything particularly outstanding on there. Just because it's a long, long list of names doesn't mean the talent level is "insane". There's a whole heap of "meh" and/or washed-up on there.

Following Russell Wilson and Justin Simmons, the Broncos have released Thunder the horse mascot after ten years. The Broncos general manager John Paton has thanked Thunder for their service to the club, and community.

Sad news indeed. Neigh idea if this frees up any cap space though. Boom! Boom!

Safety position has become a bit devalued over the last few years, due to changes in Offensive styles.

I think that's why there are very few real "impact" Safeties around nowadays. So many teams playing permanent 2-Deep looks, or Single High with extra Corners on the field. All your guy has to do in those schemes is read the receiver out of their break, not blow the assignment, and not let his guy get behind him.

The problem with guys like Derwin James is where the hell do you play him? James isn't a great deep S, in fact, he's extremely mediocre played as a true FS, but teams would rather play a cover CB than line big box Safeties up in the slot, and LB's are getting smaller and faster as a rule generally, so there's next to no difference between a 220llb box Safety and a 230llb LB.

There's a bit of a debate with what to do with DJIII in Minter's scheme. It's 3/4 base, which poses a problem, because DJ is at his best playing like an old WLB and there is no such role in a 3/4. Staley tried to half-ass it, and I think it's no coincidence that DJ frequently stunk the place out or vanished completely over the thick end of two full seasons, and only really looked like the DJIII of old once Staley finally got shitcanned.

Erm, what?

Surprising, but this must be the 49ers looking forward to next year's salary cap when 6 or 7 players take up over $150 million.
