Ross County [6] : [1] Raith Rovers

Recommended Posts

The gap between the sides was huge over the course of the tie.  County are miles above anything we've played in the championship this season.

Just shows the advantage of have a proven goal scorer like Simon Murray.

We must take this as a warning as you can only get away with luck for so long.

We must spend to find the best striker available near our budget.

The concept of football appears to have evaded you.

He probably reckons the cup final yesterday was an intriguing tactical encounter whose quality flew over the heads of the pleb audience as well.

If you replaced the players County have with other players, would the gulf have been so big? Who can say.

How’s the ‘natural order’ going, Ian?

Seems to me he was just about right.  Just Airdrie playing above their station now.  Don't think anyone will be playing below theirs next year.

The Championship is such a joke league.

Makes it even funnier that clubs like Ayr and Morton haven’t been able to win promotion for decades.

The top flight is pretty much a closed shop for the smaller full time teams and has been for 30 years or more. The lack of jeapordy with only 1 automatic relegation place is a disgrace, and clubs like Motherwell, Kilmarnock, St Mirren and St Johnstone have been riding the gravy train for free for decades.

I dont see Ayr, Morton, Hamilton, QoS, Airdrie, Livingston, Raith getting promoted ever again tbh. Unless you have a miracle like Livingston 5 or 6 years ago, or a Roy McGregor type sugar daddy it's impossible to compete financially.

Another interesting hypothetical would be if you gave Raith all of County’s players,  what would have happened?  Again, there’s just no telling.

I wonder if Gordon Brown made the trip and was part of the 'yellow wall'.

Got him down as the type to have a yellow top over a suit jacket.

Any sightings of Jockys Jetpack around the Dingwall area? Rumour has it he was on route to bring oor Si home immediately after full time with his glorious moustache taking centre stage.

Thank you.

We spent almost a decade out the top flight m8, then fought back to get promoted (when there were less potential promotion places), and are now an established top flight side.

This "ItS ImPosSibLe tO gET pRomOtED" crew seems to consist entirely of fans of clubs who can't manage it so blame it on some imaginary barrier that's impossible to overcome.

3 of those teams have literally played dozens of European games over the last 30 years and there are a fair few cups amongst them too.

It’s obviously not impossible for the Championship team to get promoted, it’s just quite difficult as the Premiership team is usually miles better than anything they’ve played in the league and they seem to get a bit shellshocked by it.

I’d say County were clearly the better team the first 75 minutes of game one and last 45 of game two. The rest of the time the difference was not nearly as clear. Dhanda and Murray were absolutely difference makers on the pitch, switch those two to the other side and it becomes a very interesting question of how County would have done.

It just shows the problem Championship sides face in the playoffs, and why the success rate is so low.

You are sticking up for your team. Fair enough, I get that.

However, that's delusional pish you've posted there.

Totally agree. The first leg may have ended 2-1 and possibly 2-2 as there was a chance at the end, but over the game County looked a far better outfit.

Yeah, this pretty much.  Also the fact that it's over 2 legs just makes it more likely for the Premiership side to show that extra quality.

No complaints,  our big chance was to win the league - playoffs were always going to be a challenge, but that was a fair hiding we took, can't shy away from that.

Ultimately, our form in the 2nd half of the season was a decent chunk worse than the first.  Its become a bit of a trope to mention the late goals and attacking football, but both of those dried up some time ago - we ended up being a decent, hardworking Championship side with good attacking options and a poor defence.  Which showed in these 2 legs.

I know it’s very if your auntie had balls etc but if Dodds didn’t try to be a smart arse in the first half of the first leg against St Johnstone we’d have won that game relatively comfortably and would have ended up getting promoted.

I dunno, we got a high level bumming in the 2nd leg.
