Well that was a really weird draw process.

127 teams entered.

20 given byes to R2 (the teams qualified for the SFA Cup).

R1 draw consisted of 1 tie between 2 teams drawn from the remaining 107, the winner going directly into R3!

125 teams then took part in the R2 draw, drawn into 62 ties and one bye.

With 127 entrants that single tie in R1 could just have been incorporated into R2. R1 was completely unnecessary numerically speaking. The only reason for concocting a one-tie R1 was to invent a way to give 20 teams byes at the first stage.

What a nonsense!

Cruden Bay and Neilston should just play their "R1" tie on 21st September along with all the "R2" matches!

127 clubs in 63 ties + 1 bye gives 64 clubs for the following round, or am I missing something?

It would make the 31st August round 1 redundant though.

They get to pretend that the Scottish Cup teams received byes.

Kennie needs to get better at disguising BS.

As I posted above "R1" is only about creating the fiction of giving 20 SFA Cup qualifiers byes to the second stage.

The only club with an ACTUAL bye is Petershill, who weren't entitled to one!

21st September sees a full LL and EoS League fixture list.   Only Bathgate and Stoneyburn are idle and can play their SJC games that day, otherwise, good luck.

Bo'ness away to Gala, Tranent at home to Gretna.

Most of the EoS fixtures work out as SJC v. SJC. Getting the league fixture postponed won't be an issue. The first round has been the easiest to accomodate that.

Stoneywood-Parkvale withdrew this season, otherwise would have been the ideal 128 teams. Except still would have needed the convoluted R1-R2 system to give Scottish Cup teams 'byes' cos of the rules. The same rules that say Tranent & Bo'ness United shouldn't be in it as they can't be members or play at Tier 6.

St Roch's think that a Lowland League fixture will be rearranged to suit Tranent...

boness united playing there under20s in the junior cup with the big team travekling to gala dont even know why they entered or were even allowed to enter

But they are allowed to enter and if they have to play games simultaneously and choose to play rotated squads in either or both competitions, what's the issue?
