I can think of a fairly obvious reason why the members wouldn't vote for Badenoch.

Is everything that black and white with the Tory members?

Yes, it probably is.

Anyway, it's Poundland penny for me.

It's a bit like being manager of Man United- better wait until the next guy gets sacked before making your move.

If there is a big wipeout then there might not be much to choose from. If it's a candidate from the right of the Tories (flog everything off, kill the poor, hang immigrants) then Keef is guaranteed two terms at least.

May as well give it to Yogi "guid, honest, fascists"..

A real shame Mordaunt is getting emptied as she probably would be a good pick for them. A decent chance of reconciling the wing nut and 'normal' wings of the party and producing stirrings in the Mail/Telegraph sexually retired demographic.

I can’t think of any Tories getting emptied that I would consider a shame.

Well yeah, it's a shame for them.

I couldn't give a f**k what loser they pick.

A less obvious one is that compared to Cruella she's a weak kneed leftie. She plays the culture warrior fruitloop but she refused to go along with automatically anulling every law made in cooperation with the EU, Rees Mogg's plan to shove children back up chimneys and truly liberate capitalism.

Actually, after looking at the odds, I might go for Steve Barclay. The new make up of MPs is hard to gauge and after the Truss debacle they might sensibly disenfranchise the members. Barclay looks the part, has been a safe pair of hands in his unremarkable cabinet career, played down the middle to avoid annoying the factions, does OK on TV, so at 40/1 could be worth a punt. Haven't looked at his constituency prospects yet though.

P. S. A bit like how John Major and Theresa May got in.
