Your clubs Youth Academy Alumni XI

Recommended Posts

What qualifies for "youth academy graduate" is up for debate. For Morton I'm going to make it mean players who spent at least some time at your club as youth players before making their debut. Therfore Jai Quitongo (picked up after leaving Aberdeen at 17 counts) counts, but someone like Chris Millar wouldn't (signed from Celtic at 19, straight into the first team)

Active players only.

Darren Hynes (Clyde) - Tam O'Ware (Kelty) - Lewis Strapp (some Finnish team) - Mark Russell (just left Portadown)

Lewis McGregor (Airdrie) - Reece Lyon (Queen of the South) - Lewis McGrattan (Airdrie)

Declan McDaid (Bohemians) - Brian Graham(Partick) - Scott Tiffoney (Dundee)

Subs: Jai Quitongo (no club) Michael Garrity (Morton), Alex King (Morton)

No goalie whatsoever to speak of. Struggling in defence, but the midfield and attack has the makings of a fairly solid Championship team.

GK - ?

RB - Zander MacKenzie (Partick Thistle)
CB - Jack Hendry (Al Ettifaq)
CB - Liam Lindsay (Preston)
LB - James Penrice (Hearts)

CM - Ben Stanway (Partick Thistle)
CM - Kyle Turner (Partick Thistle)
CM - Stuart Bannigan (Partick Thistle)

RW - Ricco Diack (Partick Thistle)
LW - Aidan Fitzpatrick (Partick Thistle)
ST - Kevin Nisbet (Millwall)

"Active players only" certainly throws a spanner in the works for a few positions.

GK - Drawing a blank here. If Ryan Scully hadn't retired a couple of years back he'd be our choice by default, unless I'm missing anyone obvious.
RB - MacKenzie is a current youth product that is essentially used as a utility backup. Has played a few times at RB in the past year.
RW - Similar to the above in that Diack is naturally a striker, but was shunted out to the wing at times last season.

I actually had no idea Kyle Turner was in our academy at one point until I took a quick look at his name on Wikipedia just out of interest to see where he played his youth football. He's certainly an upgrade on the likes of Andrew McCarthy (Peterhead) or Mohamed Sena Niang (Dumbarton) who were my earlier CM thoughts...

Even with some youth jobber in goals, I'd feel pretty confident about this mythical team winning the current Championship.

Mitchell (Partick)

Hewitt (QOS)  Muirhead (Partick) Bilham (Stenhousemuir)  Maxwell (Doncaster)

Crawford (Partick) Smith (Annan) McCowan (Dundee)

Forrest (Hearts) Doak (Liverpool) Dembele (Birmingham)

Subs - Avci (Troon), McCracken (Auchinleck), Ecrepont (Stranraer), Longridge (Hamilton), Wardrope (Auchinleck), Hilton (Dumbarton) McGuffie (Dumbarton)

As best and as balanced as I can think of.  Went without any of our current crop, assumed OP meant players who have moved on as they haven't included any of their current youth players.

1 Jamie Barclay (Cumnock) 2 Keiron Duffie (Clyde) 3 Tony Gallagher (Liverpool) 4 Murray Wallace (Millwall) 5 Stephen Kingly (Hearts), 6 Scott Arfield (Bolton) 7, Kai Fotheringham (Dundee United), 8, Connor McGrandles (MK Dons) or Jay Fulton (Swansea) 9, Kevin Ohara (Hamilton) 10, Jordon White (Ross County) , 11 Craig Sibbald (Dundee unt) or Ryan Flynn (st Mirren)

pretty sure I’ve missed a few here, no doubt another fan will jog my memory soon enough with somebody obvious I’ve neglected.

Isn't Scully still playing for Drumchapel Utd in the West of Scotland? Sure he retired from pro football to join the police but is still kicking about so could arguably be included.

James Maxwell, Ben Doak and Siriki Dembele were all in our youth Academy as well at various points

Wasn't aware of that, but Transfermrkt suggests you're right.

Sounds like it's Ryan Scully playing in the 6th tier of Scottish football vs Mason McCready who played for us last night - which is probably a closer competition than it really should be.

For now:

GK: Callan McKenna (Bournemouth)

LB: Andy Robertson (Liverpool)
CB: Tempted to include Barry Douglas even though he'd be slightly out of position (free agent right now I think)
CB: Alex Bannon (Burton Albion)
RB: Paul McGinn (Motherwell)

LW: Steven Bradley (Hamilton)
CM: Blair Spittal (Hearts)
CM: Liam Brown (Kelty)
RW: Aidan Connolly (Raith Rovers)

ST: Lawrence Shankland (Hearts)
ST: Michael Ruth seems to be doing well enough these days? (Dumbarton)

I've almost definitely forgotten someone fairly obvious.

Could place accies winger Stephen Bradley in the winger slot. Came from youth system and played around 5 first team games for us in 2018 before heading to hibs

GK - Rohan Ferguson (Larne)

RB - Sean Mcintosh (Stranraer)

CB - Rickie Lamie (Ross county)

CB - Scott Dunn (Albion Rovers)

LB - Josh Edwards (Charlton Athletic)

RM - Scott Stewart  (Arbroath)

CM - Liam Watt (Gala fairydean)

CM - Nicky Cadden (Barnsley)

LM - Gary Mackay-Steven (Kilmarnock)

ST - Jordan Allan (Clyde)

ST - Tony Watt (Dundee Utd)

Some varying levels of ability there and had to shoehorn in a few players out of position but overall a decent return considering we spent a good amount of time with no academy at all.

Struggling a wee bit with this but here's what I've got so far:-

GK - Ross Laidlaw

LB -          (feel like putting Hannah in here would be a bit of a cheat as we didn't actually have a youth system when he joined)

CB - David Bates (Standard Liege - well about to move there from Mechelen apparently)

CB - Adam Masson (no club)

RB -

LM - Aaron Arnott (Bonnyrigg - not really left footed but again I'm squeezing him in)

CM - Dylan Tait (Falkirk)

CM - Ross Matthews (Rovers)

RM - James Berry (Stenhousemuir - probably more of a CM but sticking him in here anyway)

ST - Kieron Bowie (Fulham)

ST - Lewis Vaughan (Rovers)

Need other Rovers fans to correct/fill in the blanks.  I'm almost certainly forgetting about someone.

For Falkirk in a 4-2-3-1

GK Robbie Mutch (Ayr United)

RB Stewart Murdoch (East Fife)

CB Stephen Kingsley (Hearts)

CB Murray Wallace (Millwall)

LB Liam Dick (Raith Rovers)

CM Jay Fulton (Swansea)

CM Scott Arfield (Bolton)

RAM Connor McGrandles (Lincoln City)

CAM Craig Sibbald (Dundee United)

LAM Ryan Flynn (St Mirren)

ST Kevin O'Hara (Hamilton)

Guys like Tony Gallagher, Blair Alston etc currently without a club so haven't included them

Couldn't decide if I wanted to do it based on how good they were for Livi, or how good they are/likely to be now, so in the end I've ended up with some weird hybrid.

GK: Darren Jamieson (Stenhousemuir)

LB: Andy Halliday (Motherwell)
CB: Coll Donaldson (Falkirk)
CB: Callum Fordyce (Raith Rovers)
RB: Kyle Jacobs (Stenhousemuir)

LM: Dylan Easton (Raith Rovers)
CM: Graham Dorrans (Johnstone Burgh)
CM: Ross Docherty (Dundee United)
RM: Keaghan Jacobs (Gala Fairydean Rovers)

ST: Leigh Griffiths (Mandurah City)
ST: Jack Hamilton (Raith Rovers)

Bench: Craig McDowall (No club), Shaun Rutherford (Bo'ness United), Stefan Scougall (Alloa Athletic), Matthew Knox (Musselburgh Athletic), Danny Mullen (Derry City), Marc McNulty (No club)

Liam Gordon was a youth player that McGlynn took with him to Hearts when he left.  Put Bowie on the right and Callachan as a ten off Vaughan.  Dave Mackay or Jamie Watson fills right back and Greg Young fills left back

Active players yes.

And yes again, played again. The Ayr fans picking Dembele and Doak are BANNED!

The current first team squad has 7 academy graduates in it so I'd say it's improving over the years as Forest, Crawford and McCowan all seemed like one-off at the time.

Could slot Liam Brown (Kelty Hearts) into the midfield? He started out in our system before moving on to Motherwell then Edinburgh City and eventually came back to QP.
