On the phone, on hold for 50 minutes so far…hold time, at the beginning was advertised at “more than 10 minutes”…at least the music changes up, but the constant interrupting to ask if you still want to hold is annoying. I’m 50 blooming minutes in on hold and I don’t want to leave a f**king message!

Were you calling to give advice...NASA, BAE, Sudanese peace negotiators, the COVID enquiry...

Just got an email about van insurance renewal coming up.

Last year's premium £169.

This year's 'offer'... £422.

Off I popped to the comparison sites for more quotes, and unbelievably that was the cheapest. Wtf has happened in the industry to justify this?

Yup. Mind when it would make the news when train tickets or something went up 4 or 5 percent and folk were raging. Now your everyday necessary expenses are regularly going up 100-200%.

Oh well, at least we're all in this together.

Claims inflation has gone mental. Insurers financial results over the last year haven’t made good reading, with Direct Line a big headline maker by issuing 2 separate profit warnings, and RSA (More Than) withdrawing from the motor market completely.

I'm gonna go with blaming @TxRover personally for this.

The official inflation figures are a bit of a joke though. 9-10%, when so many everyday costs are up anywhere from 25-200%, is it aye?

A couple of others have told me their van insurance has also gone mental, but my wife's recent car insurance renewal was fine.

Van drivers getting shafted it seems.

(Cue rant about keeping Britain moving, backbone of society etc, look out for me on GB News)

Stick in the number plate of a similar size van but different make and model to see if its just the type of van you are being punished for owning.

Could be with the low emission zones predominantly affecting diesel and petrol vans, there have been a spate of write offs and unexplained thefts?

I've got a couple of those in the lab here, I think. Is this for curing concrete cubes underwater?

We had a cement chemist here and he retired in 2020, but the lab is all still here.

Indeed it is.  Any good stuff in the lab that could be put to use?
