Dee Man
Very, very petty in the grand scheme of things but the host on Radio Scotland's drivetime show today kept referring to the emergency services as "first responders". When did this latest Americanism creep into our vocabulary? Dick.
Lisa Cuddy
People who appear to have lost or never had the ability to react to a tragedy with any sort of perspective. Jokes are one thing, humour, regardless of its quality in the face of adversity is a normal reaction. But is outwardly wondering about the possibility of people you know being involved and speculating on here normal. I think not, but times change and it does seem that some people think it is. Even based on stats, there were 10s of thousands in town today. Why do people think the worst? In fairness, the lad you're referring to had tried to get in touch and hadn't been able to which is what made him start to worry. It's only natural that people feel a need to offload this stuff, even on a forum like this one.

His was indicative of the genre, but he's far from unique.
Shotgun
My sister, who could sink the "Annoying things people post on Facebook" thread with weight of the inanities she posts, has already shared this gem. "My brother in law was at his desk in Glasgow today. Thankfully he was not involved in the awful accident. Prayers for anyone affected in any way. xxxx" Given that our brother-in-law's desk is a mere 3 miles from where the accident took place, it's a miracle he survived.
Dee Man
Trying to give someone, Shotgun for example, a greenie and the fucking screen jumps at the very second your pressing it. You're welcome Mrs M.

I'd normally agree with you, controversial as you may be when you're being serious - you usually make sense even when you're being harsh - but this lad was worrying because he'd tried getting in touch but couldn't and, it appeared to me, unsure what to do.

Why not go to the house, the scene, phone the police etc. How real was the worry or was it hysteria?

You're welcome Mrs M. I hate that. It's ok if you give someone a red by mistake, just explain and give them a greenie on another post. Withdrawing a greenie is awkward. I feel for your pain Mrs M. Sergeant Wilson
I don't know. It wasn't me that was worried! That's my point, most of us had no need to react that way.

Sergeant Wilson
Someone reacted differently from how you would have acted. What's the point in making a deal about it? It's not him personally, but it's a phenomenon I can't understand. It seems like part of the same movement towards grief porn and self validation by association. welshbairn
Someone reacted differently from how you would have acted. What's the point in making a deal about it? I think it was more about joining in a fashionable trauma than having an actual concern. Otherwise he would have phoned them.
Zen Archer (Raconteur)
My laptop was taken over by an adware virus, McAfee/BT couldn't find it. I downloaded AVG and it took the little c**t up the hoop in seconds. So much for paying for anti virus protection.

Sergeant Wilson
He did try phoning, that was the point! He'd rung the mobile, didn't have her land line and couldn't get hold of those who did. Was she in town? We don't know. It wasn't quite at the stage of public expressions of anxiety.
