Petty Things That Get On Your Nerves...

Recommended Posts

People that say "a quarter of an hour". Is saying "15 minutes" too mainstream? c***s.

Thanks to MOTD commentator Tony Green for reminding me of this.

Do not got to Norway with this shit, 30 odd years later and I still can't get my head round it.

Nah, half an hours fine. How far should we go? Maybe we should start saying a twelfth of an hour for 5 minutes.

Quarters and halves aren't just run of the mill fractions.

Q-final as an example.

I've just never imagined that anyone would take issue with this (even as pttgoyn).

Each to their own though.

You don't say 15 mins to 4, you say quarter to, therefor quarter of an hour is acceptable.

Not the same thing though. If saying "a quarter of an hour" was shorter than saying "fifteen minutes" (like "quarter to four" is shorter than saying "fifteen minutes to four" then I could understand. It's actually 3 syllables longer though. There is absolutely no need for it.
