More good news:-

The club is delighted to announce that it has signed a three-year deal with BBC Radio Leeds for live match commentary.

BBC Leeds, who last provided full match commentaries during the 2007/08 season, will return to the gantry for the new season after agreeing a new deal to supply Leeds United match commentaries on FM around the region.

Managing Director David Haigh said: "We are looking forward to working with them and see this as another exciting partnership to further increase the exposure the club receives.

"The BBC and Leeds United are a natural fit as two great institutions, both locally and nationally. It's a good deal for our fans, many of whose association with the club was forged through listening to BBC commentaries.

"It is also key to our strategy of maximising the value of an association with the club while creating the widest possible exposure for the club and all its commercial partners and followers."

"Having been a former member of the BBC Radio Cornwall Sport scene team this is an especially good day for me."

Chairman Salah Nooruddin added: "We're delighted that BBC Radio Leeds will be joining Yorkshire Radio in providing live match commentary to the people of the region for the next three years. We look forward to working closely with them over the course of the agreement."

Helen Thomas, Head of BBC Yorkshire, says: "This is excellent news for BBC Radio Leeds and we very much look forward to working with Leeds United over the next three years."

The BBC will provide full commentary on all matches from the opening Championship game of the season against Brighton on Saturday August 3.

It will be a lot better than Bate's Yorkshire Radio commentary.

Att: 2,751

There was a much changed starting line-up for United's final away pre-season trip to Stevenage.

Brian McDermott made eight changes from the team that started at Walsall three days earlier, the only remaining names on the teamsheet were Paddy Kenny, Tom Lees and Paul Green.

0,,10273~12090388,00.jpgDuring the opening exchanges neither side were given the time to settle on the ball with both sides closing down well..

The first clear opportunity of the half went to the home side on the quarter-hour mark. Good work from Luke Freeman opened but Lees made a decisive block.

The home side attacked again five minutes later, and it was Lees with an inch perfect challege that prevented Oumare Tounkara having an attempt on goal.

Kenny was also called into action for the time on 22 minutes when he made a great block to deny Jon Ashton.

On the half hour mark United created a first meaningful chance of the evening. Good hold-up play by Dominic Poleon led to a great chance for Green to strike at goal, but his attempt went over the bar.

Moments later United carved out the best chance of the half when Aidy White carried the ball 20-yards, beating three men in the process but Poleon couldn't connect with the midfielder's cross.

With the half drawing to a close it was United that pushed for the opening goal. Michael Brown struck a free kick that brought a great save from Chris Day and the midfielder's effort proved to be the final attempt of the half.

0,,10273~12090401,00.jpgUnited started the second half brightly, White was involved again and his good work led to David Norris seeing his strike fly over Day's goal.

United started to control proceedings and 10 minutes after the interval Zac Thompson's through ball set up Poleon, but the striker saw his effort saved.

United's early pressure almost brought the opening goal when Luke Varney's headed effort went just wide. The United boss rang the changes on 60 minutes by introducing Ross McCormack and Rudy Austin to proceedings.

The fresh faces sparked Brian McDermott's side into life and it wasn't long before the deadlock was broken. Great build-up play from Thompson was followed by Varney converting Austin's cross and heading the ball past the Stevenage keeper.

The goal was Varney's first of pre-season and he doubled his tally five minutes later when he made no mistake after being put through on goal, to finish calmly past Day.

And just minutes after the restart Varney completed a nine minute hat-trick when he converted from the penalty spot. Moments later the striker received a standing ovation after being replaced by Noel Hunt.

With just five minutes of the game remaining Brown almost capped off the evening, but he saw his 20-yard lofted effort skim the crossbar as it went over.

Bates was sacked because he committed the club to a private jet contract to ferry him to and from Monaco without authorisation, seems the club were paying 5K a month for Bates office in Monaco. On top of that as I think we all knew the club were paying for the many court cases Bates was involved in.

He seems to say he is going to sue GFH for missed payment involving a company Bates claims to have nothing to do with (Lutonvillle).

Bates is also attempting to blame the GFH for the huge cashflow / financial liablities they inherited which of course were a result of Ken's activities.

Looking forward to the Brighton games as well DFTR, looks like we might have a decent crowd.

The decision has been made to concentrate the club's digital media output on LUTV and the soon-to-be launched new-look website.

Manager director David Haigh said: "This is one of the toughest decisions we have made, and we would like to place on record our thanks to all the staff at Yorkshire Radio, who have worked tremendously hard over the years to build up a Yorkshire sports station on DAB."

Breaking news about buying back Elland Road:-

Leeds United hope to buy back Elland Road home

Leeds United owners GFH Capital are close to buying back the club's Elland Road home, BBC Radio Leeds understands.

It is believed the owners are on the verge of a multi-million pound deal which will see the ground returned to the club after it was sold by the Yorkshire Consortium nine years ago.

The Championship side were forced to sell the ground on a lease back deal in November 2004.

GFH purchased Leeds from Ken Bates in December 2012.

Bates, 81, left his role as the Yorkshire club's president last Friday.

Leeds start their season with a home match against Brighton on Saturday.

Sounds like the Red Bull deal is about to be sealed.
