Bully Wee Villa
Very enjoyable day at The Home of Cricket. [emoji4] Tempted to go tomorrow but will likely be hung over and have to be up early on Sunday to head to Hillsborough.
Bobby Skidmarks
Cook passes Pietersen as England's top run scorer in all formats of the game and with fewer innings. Cooks an enigma, the fans have never warmed to him as much as the more 'entertaining' batsmen like Pietersen, Gower or even Root. But imo he's been one of the worlds best openers in the last 30 years. His spell in Australia in the 2010/2011 series was especially brilliant.

He is a class act, best thing he did was chucking the one day game.Listening to TMS today while shopping, heard this trivia question. How many no balls did Phil Tufnell bowl in Test matches?

Cook epitomises everything that is great about cricket, he doesn't have any of the flamboyance of Root but you can enjoy what he does as he is a master opening batsman. He has worked incredibly hard and made the most of his ability. Only when he is gone will the England fans realise how good he is. He is a better version of M A Atherton and who can forget his amazing 185no against SA. Hopefully Captain Cook has a few years left at the top
Arthur Orton
Delighted to see our Aussie chums hurtling towards another loss. 133-7 and all batsman gone. Voges ridiculous averag might start to drop now too.

die hard doonhamer
Sri Lanka beat Australia by 229 runs to secure a first series win against them since 1999.The match was the 10th shortest test match in history in terms of balls bowled, with the result coming just after lunch on day 3.
Bearwithme
Pakistan get Hales and Cook out quickly. The match is beautifully poised....
die hard doonhamer
Root dropped at first slip on 25. Tough chance but one that is probably taken 8 or 9 from 10.

Going to set a record for lowest opening scores as well.
dogmc
Vince is the cricket equivalent of groundhog day.....gets in looks good for a big score sells wicket to cheap waft outside off stump. That said this might be chance to hurry the scoreboard along. Hopefully bairstow plays some shots....suspect tho that cooks natural caution might stop batsmen really going after the win.
Savage Henry
Moeen Ali batting beautifully here. So much confidence in his batting, yet utterly bereft of confidence with the ball. England having a very good day - England win or a draw only real possible results now.

Easy to say safely tucked up behind a keyboard but would love to see English batsmen really have at it now and go after the win. Would be a shame if this match petered out to a draw.eta seem to be upping the rate now. Hopefully be a grandstand finish tomorrow
dogmc
Nice 50 from bairstow. What a 12 months he's had.
Savage Henry
Nice 50 from bairstow. What a 12 months he's had. Yup. If he ever gets his glove work up to passable standard, he'll be an essential part of the England side for a long time to come.

Could bring in Buttler and just have him as a batsmen

dogmc
Don't get why England haven't been aggressive and declared earlier I'd like to see that but I can see the logic of not wanting to lose the match when there's only one test left in the series.
dogmc
Could bring in Buttler and just have him as a batsmen Yep n it would solve the Vince / Ballance issue. Think hales has just about nailed the opener slot. As far as wk I do think bairstow has improved a lot. Both him n Buttler in the batting line up would be pretty formidable. Woakes n stokes means effectively two all rounders and with Rashid / Ali able to bowl spin and bat England shaping up pretty well.
