jaggyness
We reading much into the line ups in the ashes warm up matches? Anderson has been rested and the t20 world cup players are still quarantining but looks like Foakes is still the second choice wk after Buttler despite never really doing it in any of his previous opportunities.

Foakes should be first choice with the gloves, he’s by far the best gloveman England have. As it is, he’s third choice behind Buttler and Bairstow.

But, at test level anyway, he's appalling with the bat

He averages 31.54 in test cricket, which is very similar to Buttler (33.33) and Bairstow (33.70).
jaggyness
I think that’s an exaggeration. He averages 31.54 in test cricket, which is very similar to Buttler (33.33) and Bairstow (33.70).Yeah I went ott on that tbf. But, he scored a century on debut against a fairly weak sri Lanka side which, if you remove from the equation he averages 25, which is further helped by 3no innings. For comparison and fairness, that is still higher than Buttler averages against Australia (20.5) and only slightly less than Bairstow against Australia (26.96). In fact, on further reading Foakes best innings against a team that wasn't Sri Lanka is 42* and averages 14.77 against sides that aren't Sri Lanka.
peasy23
England's preparations a bit shambolic so far, though tbf you can't predict the weather. The warm up match against the Lions squad was abandoned after only 29 overs were played over 2 days. They only have one more warm up planned before the first test.
Eednud
Not a surprise that Tim Paine is temporarily stepping aside from all forms of cricket and Pat Cummins appointed captain for The Ashes. Steve Smith is Cummins’ deputy. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-26/pat-cummins-named-as-new-australian-mens-test-cricket-captain/100653122 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-26/tim-paine-takes-leave-of-absence-from-cricket-sexting-scandal/100652724 Edited November 26, 2021 by Eednud
Arthur Orton
A good day for the kiwis in India. Skittled the hosts out for 345 and 93 without loss so far Tim Southee bowled superbly. Spare a thought for the 37 year old spinner the kiwis brought in for this game. No wickets.
Arthur Orton
Hilarious scenes in India as the bully boys of world cricket are forced off with bad light with NZ 9 wickets down resulting in a draw. Marvellous. In other news the tremendously exciting to watch Pakistan are heading for victory in Bangladesh.

Ro Sham Bo
New Zealand spinner Ajaz has just taken 10 wickets in Indian's first innings. Only the 3rd player in test history to do so apparently.

peasy23
The Kiwis got an unlikely draw in the previous Test, it will take divine intervention for them to get anything out of this one. 400 behind at the close with 5 wickets in hand and two days left.
