Sir Tarmo
Atkinson bounces out Kusal Mendis early on, who scored 39 off 37 balls. 108/2 with Mathews at the crease joining Pathum Nissanka.
Sir Tarmo
Nissanka looks well on the way to a ton as the Sri Lankans are creaming Hull and Bashir around just now.

There's been absolutely nothing threatening his wicket. When I tuned in it was clear they will be done before tea, now I doubt they'll bother with lunch.
Sir Tarmo
Ton up for Nissanka. This hasn’t been the best Test match Woakes or Atkinson will ever play.
Sir Tarmo
While acknowledging he has played and missed, Nissanka has shown how to play an attacking innings without taking the unnecessary risks and swipes that a Duckett, Lawrence, Crawley etc would take.
parsforlife
And it's done with absolute ease, pity we need to stop TBH, I'd have happily watched him Nissanka bat all day, which he could have done.
Sir Tarmo
Fairly poor from England in that Test. Were in charge a few times and let it go through completely reckless and foolish batting. I’ve said it before but I think without Mark Wood, England become quite a one dimensional attack, which they have looked a few times at home this summer, so god knows how it will look on a flatty in Melbourne. England lost 15 wickets for 215 runs across the two innings after making a decent start despite Lawrence getting out cheaply. Second innings especially was dreadful stuff, some incredibly brainless batting. Edited September 9 by peasy23
Sir Tarmo
England ‘captain’ Ollie Pope admitting that he stayed on during bad light to bowl 17 overs of spin because he was worried about the negative reaction to going off. He surely doesn’t captain England again in the near future.

Ended up looking pretty dreadful throughout the Test match. He wasn’t ready at all, and Bashir looked hopeless all summer except for a decent spell against a poor Windies side. Lawrence opening was an absolute disaster as well. It’s time for these gimmick picks to end and for the team to actually be selected properly. Hull was thrown under the bus by Rob Key, McCullum and Stokes’ desperation to be edgy and different. Anderson retiring to build an arsenal of fast bowlers for Australia was the line we were sold at the beginning of the summer. A summer that resulted in Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson playing all 6 Tests, England running Mark Wood into the ground again and a kid thrown under the bus in the last Test match. It was a decent summer results wise but I’m not sure what England have gained pace wise. Chris Woakes surely won’t be going abroad/or to the Ashes and Wood in injured again.
Sir Tarmo
All the highlights pre-match were about Shakib signing on for one match at Ciderabad for Surrey. He did take 9 wickets but all 20 against them fell to spin…

By the time I got home they were nine down. Leach took the last wicket with five minutes left to play. Absolutely nuts. Somerset can still win all three trophies.
Boo Khaki
Anyone else a bit confused by England picking Jamie Overton in back to back T20's, batting him at 7, and not bowling him at all in either match?

A ‘finisher’ apparently. Probably the same person who thought Dan Lawrence was an opener.

He doesn't really bowl now for Surrey or for the Originals in that gameshow thingy. Bit of an odd selection IMO.
Boo Khaki
Their whole lineup for these two games has been a bit odd IMO. I'm a huge fan of Curran's, and even though I think he's been a bit underused down the years, I don't think he's good enough to be selected and pencilled in at #6. Fine at #7 or #8 and shifting him up the order on the fly like they used to do with Luke Wright or David Willey, but Livingston is also batting too high for me, so the lineup looks a lot like those stupid days years ago when they'd basically pick 8 or 9 All-rounders and hope for the best, rather than 5 specialist batters. Short format, so I can almost understand it if the thinking is get your big hitters more time in the middle, but I think it always leaves you in trouble if you lose 3 or 4 early and you already have a pair of bowlers in the middle facing 15 overs.
VillaKnollBoy
Typical, down in Manchester for the decider and it's hosing it down.
Sir Tarmo
Kamindu Mendis contuining his fine Test form in Galle, now batting at number5. New Zealand got rid of Karunaratne and Nissanka early. Chandimal got out just after lunch and Mathews retired hurt, although he came back when De Silva was dismissed.
Sir Tarmo
Another hundred from Kamindu Mendis
Sir Tarmo
Absolutely fantastic partnership nearing 200 from Ashwin and Jadeja in Chennai, after the top order (except Jaiswal) fell for very little. Ashwin nearing his hundred and Jadeja not far behind him
