capybara
Vaughan,s place will be at risk at this rate. No 500 plus this time.
kullibino
I can't see why Broad is batting at8, he should be above Flintoff and Probably Ambrose too, with a keeper scoring no runs at the moment they really can't afford to be picking 5 bowlers (Flintoff's no all-rounder even in county cricket now). Todays tail started at 6. Jones in for Pattinson for the next test, Ambrose might as well stay as I can;t see any better choices (though Moore got 80 odd today).
die hard doonhamer
Disagree with Kulli re Flintoff, he has had a few good knocks for Lancs recently. Agree with you about Pattison though, although i think with Sidebottom being injured they should of stuck with Colly, at least he is capable of batting. Mark Ramprakash (sp?) should be in there though, how he hasn't had a recall in the past 2 years I'll never know.

He's averaging 22 with 1 50 all season in FC. Bashing a few 30 odd's in OD games doesn't help much when your team 150 for 5 in test match though. Broad averages nearly double that in tests, albeit it's likely skewed by his lack of games. I'd have taken Jones and a Batter over Flintoff and Pattison had I been picking the team. Right now the have a keeper who can't bat, 3 rabbits and 2 alrounders one of whom can't build an innings for love nor money this season.
btb
I see England coach Peter Moores has indicated the controversial selection of bowler Darren Pattinson for the second Test against South Africa was down to captain Michael Vaughan. I feel the knives will be out for Vaughan unless England can (at least) square the series or he produces a big score over the next couple of tests. Super J's
Anderson is still to hit-and-miss to be a top international bowler. He goes for far too many runs, which is highlighted more so when he doesn't take wickets. As regards Vaughan, if he wasn't such a good captain, he'd be out the side already. His batting has deteriorated without halt ever since he became captain.
capybara
Vaughan falls into the Mike Brearly category of captain, only there for that reason. I agree 100% that the other bowlers Harmison etc must be fuming. Very strange , anyway more changes before Birmingham. I would leave Broad in though i know his wickets are fairly expensive but he makes more runs than many of the so called batsmen. Developing into a class all rounder.
Shengus Khan
It's Hoggard I feel sorry for. One poor game (in NZ after a return from injury) and he's dropped. The guy has been England's premier bowler this century and had some of the Aussie batsmen on toast in 2005. He swings the ball both ways, is inexpensive and he takes wickets. For the next test i'd go for Cook, Strauss ©, Bell, Pietersen, Shah, Prior (wk), Flintoff, Hoggard, S Jones, Harmison, Panesar. I know Prior is a pish 'keeper but at least he can bat.

Shah is fair enough, although i can see Collingwood being recalled ahead of him.
kullibino
Collingwood is out of form, every batsmen goes through a spell like that at some point. When Colly is playing well he is absolutely fantastic.Stuart Broad is turning out a great player in all forms of the game Collingwood has never been fantastic, and Broads bowling average is fast approaching 50, other than that you're bang on.
capybara
Watched Harmission bowling in the 20/20 last night he looked good, possible recall. I hear Moore,s is having clear the air talks with Vaughan.

An on form harmison i9s well orth his place, the only problem is he has the mental strength of a 12 year old girl, and for that reason I'd go with Jones over him.

I wouldnt disagree i like Jones, he has has real pace . Also its G Miller thats holding talks with Vaughan today, not Moore as i stated in my earlier post.
Guest The Phoenix
Get tuned to Sky Sports 2 Durham were 187 for 9 chasing 287 for victory. Plunkett and Harmison have put on 79 and need 21 to win off 15 balls.

If he is back to anything like close to the bowler he was before injury then I'd have him in the side. And maybe alongside Hoggard. You can just about get away with the likes of Harmison in the side if you have other bowlers to carry it off when he is having a Bob Willis rythym problem. Englands bowling is shite just now.

Funny thing is they have potentialy better bowlers now than they have had for years. I,ve been watching Cricket since the sixties, and there have been some really barren times.

His 30 odd wicket at about 12 suggest it's not coming out to bad, in his favour are also the facts he's an ok bat and a gun outfielder.
Shengus Khan
Can any cricketers out there explain to me why teams still use a night watchman? Jimmy Anderson done a fine job the other day in that position but surely a specialist batsman would be much better qualified to fend off a couple of late overs compared to a tailender.

I presume so the specialist batsman doesn't have to go in 'cold' twice.
