H_B
I had no idea England allowed a Moneyball stats guy to pretty much pick their team... Picking 3 seamers on that pitch was insanity. As Hussein says, if guys like Flower and Gooch can't take a walk outside, see a pitch like that and say "f**k your stats, Monty is playing" they have no business being there.
drs
Bell should be dropped for attempting that shot first ball ...and there goes Cook - thank you and good night for the first innings.
Savage Henry
Eh? I thought once again that for all England's posturing about how they can handle spin they failed to prove that was actually the case once they started batting. Putting in a night watchman was shambolic at best and Trott looked like he was shitting himself from the off. It was no surprise after several little prods at the ball that he got caught. Pietersen wil at least try and hit the ball away and if he can start scoring even a few ones and twos and finding gaps then he should force India to move a couple of close fielders out a bit and ease some of the pressure. I guess you've been proved right! I actually thought England bowled pretty well yesterday.

drs
191 - all out. So do India put them back in?
Highlandmagyar
There goes Broad. IMO that was borderline!! And that latest appeal was just as borderline as Broads. 200 for England?? Not too bad considering where they were. ETA all over at 191. India to force follow on?, or to rack up some runs to have a longer spell to kill them off.
Highlandmagyar
191 - all out. So do India put them back in? With a lead of 330 its not an easy one to decide. India will feel they can skittle them out cheaply with this wicket. Again, if they go ot and bang in a quick 200 then it gives them plenty of time to win it.

India's refusal to use the referral system works in their favour more often than it works against them. It also makes them look spiteful. They really should be forced to implement it.

I can't believe that the ICC haven't made the referral system compulsory for all Test matches, it seems bonkers to have the technology available but not use it. Btw, if England are to get anything out of this they have to get through this last session without loss IMO. The ICC unfortunately do not have the backbone to stand up to the Indian board who now carry far too much power and verge on the edge of bullying with some of their posturing and input to the world game. It also isn't being used in the Sri Lanka series which started today. Have to agree with other posters, the 3 seamers idea was completely and utterly shambolic decision and you really have to wonder what their logic was. The batting again pitiful in the sub continent with the same old rabbit in headlights look about certain so called experienced batsmen. A better effort all round this innings please

A better effort all round this innings please Too many of the England batsmen seem to panic if they come to the crease with the score quite low and 2/3/4 wickets down. Contrast that with the Aussies last week when Clarke came in at 40-3 and goes on to score a double ton with a couple of the others having big scores too. Certainly a decent start here for England, but they will need to bat for ages yet.

Bell is a rime example - always looks great when coming in at 280-3 but when you need him when the chips are down he seldom delivers the goods. Hopefully Bairstow gets a shot next test Trott was fairly poor in the last 12months of test match cricket, so hopefully he knuckles down and gets back to his previous form as England need Trott to be at his best. eta - excellent session from the openers. More of the same tomorrow morning please Edited November 17, 2012 by Tynieness
Highlandmagyar
A draw for England would be a great result. As been said. A lot of batting for England to do. More less they need to stay there for the next two days

England are still a significantly better side than the Aussies. If they replayed the Ashes again starting next week, England would whip them again.

The fact that they're having a tough time in India is indicative of having some way to go in terms of being head and shoulders the best in the world (which the have been in pretty recent times). As for today's play... Cook played his best ever innings for England I think, and Matt Prior is by a country mile the best wicket-keeper/bastsman in the game. Not so many calls for Chris Reid now, are there?
