Dindeleux Posted March 21, 2014 Share Posted March 21, 2014 It sounds totally fucked and oiling it will make little difference. Yes,oiling it regularly is the cheapest option, but since you're an idle cnut, next cheapest option is a new chain The oil worked a treat. Still having some issues with 1 particular gear but on the main it felt a lot better today. How often should I oil it? 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

broon-loon Posted March 23, 2014 Share Posted March 23, 2014 Decided to venture out on the road bike today after a layoff of around 8 months. I knew this was gonna be tough, but why did it have to be so feckin windy..? Just under 17 miles, I won't trouble you with the stat's.... Sunshine, but freezing most of the time. Oh and hailstones. Not the ideal motivation day... 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Fife Saint Posted March 23, 2014 Share Posted March 23, 2014 I had a ride earlier then went out Strathblane way for dinner with the family. Amazing the amount of single riders who were out making the most of the weather. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
~~~ Posted March 24, 2014 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Anyone ever done the route 75 from Glasgow to Edinburgh? Used to do cycle along the canal via Falkirk, but moved home recently and the 75 is pretty much outside my front door 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dindeleux Posted March 24, 2014 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Just back from a 27 mile trip to Whitelee windfarm, over 1000 ft elevation from Kilmarnock. Luckily I had the wind at my back on about 75% of the journey up. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jester Posted March 26, 2014 Share Posted March 26, 2014 Anyone know roughly how much an LBS should charge for bleeding and servicing disc brakes? Give Carl at Bikelove in Glasgow a phone. Excellent service, really good workmanship and decent prices. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
jester Posted March 26, 2014 Share Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) Anyone ever done the route 75 from Glasgow to Edinburgh? Used to do cycle along the canal via Falkirk, but moved home recently and the 75 is pretty much outside my front door I haven't done all of it, but have done a fair bit. For a few years I was the Sustrans Ranger on the Drumgelloch to Caldercruix section. A lot of it has been renewed, so give it a go. There are a fair few train stations along the route so a long cycle and a train journey back is a good option. In general go west to east. The wind is usually at your back.* *I say usually. It wasn't this morning and added 10 minutes to my journey... Edited March 26, 2014 by jester 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bold Rover Posted March 26, 2014 Share Posted March 26, 2014 Nice wee hour out tonight after work, as the sun was going down in South Ayrshire. Once the clocks go forward I hope last year's cyclists will all be back out! The more, the safer. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
The Master Posted March 26, 2014 Share Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) If this is what driving instructors are teaching their pupils is a safe distance to pass a cyclist, what hope do we have for improving safety? For reference, my camera sits towards the middle of my handlebars. Edited March 26, 2014 by The Master 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Broccoli Dog Posted March 26, 2014 Share Posted March 26, 2014 why are you cycling in the gutter, that's asking for trouble? whenever possible take the lane. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
The Master Posted March 26, 2014 Share Posted March 26, 2014 why are you cycling in the gutter, that's asking for trouble? I'm not in the gutter - my wheels are about in line with the middle of the camera. It was uphill and into a headwind, so it would be a bit arsehole-ish of me to take the lane at a little under 10mph. There was plenty of space to pass - indeed, several other cars did. If it was a pupil driving, I don't blame them; I blame the instructor for not telling them to hold back or go wider. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
