lichtie23
I think in those circumstances you make a phone call to the shop and hopefully the pro/green keeper nips out on a buggy to tell the auld c***s to hurry up or let the angry men behind them through

Most people would think more about slow play if it was mentioned to them at the start of a round. I always go on about this too, but the whole "aye well pay pay our money same as you" excuse is bullshit aswell. You pay to play golf mate, and you socialise as the golf allows. Your first priority is to keep up with the group in front. Git your chat around that. It's no a fucking social club The icing on the cake today was on the 15th, the auld guests had headed off down the fairway and were fucking around when a guy playing the 18th (next to the 15th but playing in the opposite direction) wandered out looking for his ball. One of the old boys turns and shouts "was it a Titliest?". Guy says aye, old boy reaches into his bag and throws him his ball back . Silly c**t.

Inanimate Carbon Rod
2 hours ago, The Moonster said: Made a mistake today that I won't make again. Booked a tee time with my dad, tee sheet was pretty dead so booked half 12 which had only a guest booking out half an hour before us and nothing for 45 minutes after us. We had caught the 3 ball of guests by the 4th hole, and the guys (who were playing a tie) who were out after us caught us by the 12th. They weren't letting anyone through and it appears the only etiquette they were aware of was that the guy furthest away should play first, which they steadfastedly stuck to regardless of what was going on. Fucking mental, the guys in the tie behind us were going ape shit, we let them through at the 12th and I think they had a bit of a fight with the guys at the 13th. We weren't in any rush but we were nearly 3 hours 45 to get round on a day there was barely anyone on the course. f**k auld dicks at golf clubs, but f**k auld dicks playing as guests even more. A 4hr round at Dumbarton is madness? Did you not just ask them if you could play through? I usually just play solo at my bit and if i catch up with round in front i’ll just bold it and ask if i can play through. Was great today off out at 9:10, no one in front of me for 5 holes and 4 holes clear infront of the ones behind me.
Jamie_B
Through to the semis of the club match play handicap after tonight. Won 3&2 in the end, though I was four up early on and made a bit of a hash of it round the turn. Opponent got it back all square through 11 but thankfully I remembered how to hit my driver at that point and got the job done.

We did ask if we could play through around the 9th and they replied that there was another 3 ball in front (there wasn't there was two juniors out with their dad who was just walking the course) and we wouldn't get far, there was then an awkward moment where my dad seriously answered that it would be fine and the old guys either misheard or misinterpreted and just laughed and walked on. We had hoped they were going to chuck it at 14 as most old folk do at Dumbarton, and when we saw them going to 15 it was too late to bother pushing them again. We fired a few drives up their arses but they were oblivious, we probably could've just played over their heads and walked on without them noticing tbh.

I get a lot of Americans at my bit, you need to be bold with them and just ask as they dont like letting folk through.
parsforlife
Not letting people play through seems mental. If you’re having a nightmare surely you don’t want to be looking behind you seeing a better player kick their heels and watch as you embarrass yourself. And if you’re generally just slow as f**k and happy to take all day to play an extra couple of minutes letting people play through makes little difference to you but will be much appreciated by those behind. It’s just being an arsehole for the sake of it Edited August 1, 2023 by parsforlife

I am looking forward to it as i just dont get to play enough links golf. issue being the natural shape for me is a cut. could be some 3 woods and 3 irons off the tee. Thanks again Good news! I was playing on a team match tonight and my opponent had played Leven a couple of weeks ago and said it was in great condition - he had also played it last year when it was looking quite sorry, but reckoned it was now back to its best. Enjoy!

I did try my best to bin it on the 16th, where my opponent put his tee shot in the trees while I drove it to within 40 yards of the flag... then took four shots to get up and down including an adventure in a bunker Luckily he couldn't make his bogey putt. I don't think I'd have liked to have gone to the 17th/18th having chucked such a good opportunity to seal it.

lichtie23
1up win and into the Semis. Wind was pretty brutal so that was a tough slog. I made a lovely up and down from the back of the green on 18 and our opponents both missed putts from inside 5 feet to extend the match. Mark Connolly
Sign me up for Team "Let folk through". The most annoying instances for me would be the utterly bizarre "You're not allowed to let people through in a medal" or "Sorry, we can't let you through, we're playing a tie". Get the f**k out of the way.

That used to be a rule at most clubs, usually something along the lines of "A single player has no standing on the course". It was roundly ignored by most decent folk, and was removed by loads of clubs about 20 years ago

And a few of the tee’s as well. Edit - Indeed it does Edited August 2, 2023 by lichtie23

Distant Doonhamer
Proverbial game of two halves today in stableford. 13 points out and 20 points back. Tricky conditions with strong winds. Very happy with the back 9 where I was only one over par.
