F_T_Y
Sid Waddell has been diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. Sid Waddell Statement Dick Allix, Sid's Manager: ""Following recent tests, Sid has unfortunately been diagnosed with bowel cancer. "He is now undergoing treatment and will, regretfully, be unable to undertake any professional engagements for the time being." As Darts fans Sid has been part of our lives for the last 3 decades, and I'm sure we all wish him a successful recovery from this dreadful illness. More sad news.He might be annoying at times but his passion for the game is clear to see.

DomDom
FTY sums up my feelings on this. Plus, he's clearly very passionate about the sport regardless of what we think of him. I wish him well, and hope he recovers.

RedWeb
Nice to see Gary winning again. Were the likes of Wade, Taylor, Barney, Whitlock etc not playing ?
The Naitch
Nice to see Gary winning again. Were the likes of Wade, Taylor, Barney, Whitlock etc not playing ? Yeah, none of those guys took part yesterday. Surprised that Barney didn't give it a bash given that it's in Holland.
Neilly
Think Barney and a few of the guys mentioned had exhibitions booked for this weekend. This particular floor tournament had been rearranged to a different date at quite short notice hence a few of the players agreed to exhibitions as they thought it was a free week.
The Naitch
Dutch Players' Championship Fourth Round Nigel Heydon 6-3 Mervyn King Dave Chisnall 6-2 Justin Pipe Steve Evans 6-1 Steve Brown Kurt van de Rijk 6-5 Peter Wright Michael Smith 6-4 Steve Beaton Mark Webster 6-3 Mark Hylton Kevin Painter 6-2 Matt Clark Richie Burnett 6-4 Paul Nicholson Quarter-Finals Dave Chisnall 6-3 Nigel Heydon Kurt van de Rijk 6-2 Steve Evans Mark Webster 6-2 Michael Smith Richie Burnett 6-5 Kevin Painter Semi-Finals Dave Chisnall 6-0 Kurt van de Rijk Richie Burnett 6-2 Mark Webster Final Richie Burnett 6-4 Dave Chisnall Absolutely tremendous day for the Prince of Wales. I've had a quick look through his records and I think this is his first ranking tournament win since he won the World Championships back in 1995. He's worked his socks off in the last 2/3 years to get his form back and, after a couple of final appearances last year, it's finally paid off. Brilliant. EDIT: Just checked again and he won the Welsh Open shortly after his World Title and the Witch City Open in 2001, so this is his first ranking title in a decade. The Naitch
Today's epic performance also meant that Burnett qualified for Dublin. Here's the first round draw... Phil Taylor (1) v Peter Wright Ronnie Baxter v Paul Nicholson Mark Webster ( 8 ) v Andy Hamilton Dave Chisnall v Alan Tabern Simon Whitlock (5) v Terry Jenkins Mark Hylton v Mark Walsh Gary Anderson (4) v Richie Burnett Jamie Caven v Denis Ovens Adrian Lewis (2) v John Part Brendan Dolan v Wayne Jones Wes Newton (7) v Colin Lloyd Justin Pipe v John Henderson Raymond van Barneveld (6) v Mervyn King William O'Connor v Andy Smith James Wade (3) v Steve Brown Vincent van der Voort v Kevin Painter It's wide open in that bottom half of the draw. The top half is looking pretty tasty too. Edited September 25, 2011 by The Naitch

Ronnie Baxter v Paul Nicholson Mark Webster ( 8 ) v Andy Hamilton Simon Whitlock (5) v Terry Jenkins Adrian Lewis (2) v John Part Wes Newton (7) v Colin Lloyd Raymond van Barneveld (6) v Mervyn King Every single one of them wouldn't look out of place as a quarter or possibly even a semi-final. The strength in depth these days is brilliant. -

Fraser Fyvie
Isn't this format a bit unfair on the winners of the groups as players 2-6 join another group so get another chance to win a few more grand. I know the winner qualifies for the grand final but so could winners of later groups.

I know the winner qualifies for the grand final but so could winners of later groups. It's £100 a leg in the Grand Final, and it also means that players can focus on the weekend events (and, of course, the Grand Prix next week).
