Kinghorn is excellent in attack, but his defence still has huge question marks.

Yeah certainly weakest part of his game especially his kick defence but would have been good to integrate him with the squad. Given way we play he would in long term be best cover for Hogg (Maitland is obvious guy but has his own injury issues). Tonks n Jackson are dependable but great to have someone who can terrorise a defence.

Still struggling to see where our ball carriers are emerging from. My worry for autumn and six nations is we will rely on our backs but just get bullied up the middle with pace which will wear us down. We have got some great 6 7 and 8s but most of them are great turnover specialist but not carriers. Strauss and Denton had/have potential.
What options do we have coming through?

I never rated Denton myself.  However, I am happy with Strauss, Barclay, Wilson and Watson who can do an effective job in the back row.

As for Glasgow, it was an important BP win on Friday night.  Munster will be our closest rivals in our conference so to have them only get a losing BP opens up the gap a bit bigger which is helpful.

Would be nice to get revenge on Friday night though it could be a tricky game.  Dave Rennie says that he hopes Toony will release a few players and is hoping Callum Gibbons will be back (another promising back row for Scotland should he stay in the country).  What MAY give us the advantage is that the IRFU can be a lot more stricter regarding players getting leave from the international camps.

I think Toony is wanting to play a faster offloading game rather than the rumble it up the middle game, but not withstanding we are still missing some ball carriers.

Fagerson jr is probably the best option coming through at the moment for the back row.

On Kinghorn, im suprised he wasn't included in the squad, as I had assumed the only reason he didnt go in June was so he could play in the u20 WC. Cracking going forward, still a bit suspect in defence, but still a young lad.

Also a bit worried about what sort of squad Rennie will be left with for the Leinster match, given Scotland will get preference I am assuming.

Denton can't be considered solely due to his current hair cut. Both him n Strauss seem to in decent nick but Denton always has handling issues. Not sure about du preez as I don't think he's quick enough . real shame Bradbury had to be committed.

I'd be fascinated to see how that was scored .

They've concluded that France and Ireland have similar Organisation & Scheduling, but the South Africans are well ahead. They've concluded France and Ireland have similar Venues & Cities, but the South Africans are well ahead. They've concluded France and Ireland have similar Infrastructure, but South Africa are well ahead.

Some of that you can understand in terms of Ireland - their cities and towns are smaller, and some of the stadiums are more basic - but how can the South Africans be walloping the French?

France surely have world-class infrastructure, numerous large cities and lots of modern stadiums. Few countries in the world with better?

They also successfully hosted RWC 2007 and have just hosted Euro 2016 in football... meanwhile South Africa just had the Commonwealth Games taken-off them as it was turning into a shambles.

Didn't Scotland bid?

What stadiums would be used. Murrayfield obviously but pittodrie hampden ibrox and parkhead would need converting big match ups as for smaller games rugby park tynecastle and maybe Easter road/tannadice.

Actually can someone answer this properly what Scotland would need to do to host the RWC

No way we could be sole hosts of a rwc these days. Irb are after £s so want biggest capacity stadia possible hence England used almost all football grounds for last one. Most football pitches struggle for size (in goal area is tiny if you look back at most venues for rwc). Ironically given current thread about Hampden it can be used for rugby and has been in past. Ibrox has hosted 7s obviously and parkhead would also be big enough. That's only four stadia. We could probably co host with someone like Wales but that's about it. No guarantee it would be a money spinner either given how greedy irb are. Think we are hosting u20 rwc this year which is more manageable m women's rwc would be within our capabilities too.

In the last few RWC' s have the stadiums been filled? If Scotland and Wales did a joint bid they can only add 3-5 worthy stadia. Parc y scarlets, Cardiff city, liberty, Cardiff arms and of course principality. Joint bid is probably only option for men's game.

Out of interest how many suitable stadia does Ireland have?

Last one certainly had a lot of full houses which is why rwc were so keen. Someone on here a while back said Ireland have a few forty k plus stadia but tbh I only know about croke n aviva. Presume the others are Gaelic footy or hurling

Surely the football grounds plus Murrayfield would be sufficient for a Scottish bid? According to Wiki three of the Japanese host stadia have capacities below 25,000. If we give some games to the other Home Nations and France, like Wales did when they hosted, it wouldn't take too much effort to do it.

One of the host venues in 1999 had a smaller capacity than Broadwood! Scotland could host this easily!

I don't think France should host as they already have The Olympics and hosted the Euros pretty recently.

Hopefully South Africa get it, so they don't give it to one of the silly Southern Hemisphere countries with stupid timezones in 2027.

from the last world cup, i believe every game was a sell out in terms of ticket sales (in fact about 75% of matches sold out at the initial ballot about a year before the WC started)

In England the majority were 30k+ stadia and mainly football stadiums, with only a few smaller games going to traditional rugby grounds in Exeter and Gloucester to look like they were spreading it around. There was a huge uproar that the walkers stadium in Leicester was being used rather than Welford road as it had a few thousand more seats. From memory, Twickenham, Olympic Stadium, Elland Road, St James park, Villa Park, Walkers, Mk Dons and Brighton, Exeter and Gloucester and the Millenium in Cardiff, and Manchester (i think City's ground) and maybe wembley also.

I have no idea how SA comes above France other than SA still has loads of white elephant stadia built for Rugby WC and Football WC in the 90's and someone wants to help pay them off
