I'd b astonished if any future rwc has stadia below 20 k. Personally I'm all for a few of the smaller nations games being hosted at small intimate rugby clubs with a proper atmosphere. honestly united Posted November 1, 2017 Share Posted November 1, 2017 Just to follow up on some of the reasons given against the French bid as follows, They are scored down for the Olympics being the year after (fair), for anti-doping being illegal so risking arrests for doping offenses(!!!) (yes that is seriously in the document as a bad thing), and for wishing to use Tier 2 officials as 4th officials and time keepers (!!!). They are also scored down slightly because St Ettienne does not have enough hotel capacity. Irb are after £s so want biggest capacity stadia possible hence England used almost all football grounds for last one. Most football pitches struggle for size (in goal area is tiny if you look back at most venues for rwc). Ironically given current thread about Hampden it can be used for rugby and has been in past. Ibrox has hosted 7s obviously and parkhead would also be big enough. That's only four stadia. We could probably co host with someone like Wales but that's about it. No guarantee it would be a money spinner either given how greedy irb are. Think we are hosting u20 rwc this year which is more manageable m women's rwc would be within our capabilities too. It's only the order of matches that have been announced now.Neither ourselves nor Ireland seem to have any particular disadvantage. Tbf we benefitted hugely from them only having a 3 day turnaround from their epic game v sa at laat rwc. Even then we were dreadful in first half.
