I see Finn and Hoggy are in the shortlst for European player of the year, 2 out of the 5 selected.
I feel sorry for the Cheetahs if they get punted to make it a 16 team league as they have been fairly decent, unlike the kings. Also with all the SA talent being split across just 4 teams could see them dominating the league as well, so them having 5 or 6 teams would be better for us. Or go with 5 and then have an additional team from Georgia / Spain / Russia / Romania to make up the 18. I see they have a contract until 2023 or something to play in Pro14 so will be interestinf to see what happens
I think the idea of 3 leagues of 6 (1 x Scotland and Wales, 1 x Ireland & Italy and 1 x SA and AN other) play everyone in your conference H&A then every other team once for 22 game season would mean that everyone else only has to travel to SA 3 times max - best 2 league winners into semi final, then worst winner and 3 2nd place teams play off for a semi final place
The Cheetahs do have a contact to play in the Pro 14 until 2023 but not with the Pro 14. The contract is with SARU who have a deal with the the Pro 14 to supply 2 clubs.

This has all come about as I understand it due to the quarantine laws in New Zealand making it almost impossible for Super Rugby to run next year in its normal form.

Bad news that Scotland have slipped into Band 3. You want to avoid France as the 2nd level team, given that they're playing at home.

That said, there's no way that Japan will be as strong as they were a year ago so they would be the country you want in your group. Australia are weak just now, but you've got to imagine they'll be better in 3 years time.

We're paying the price for really poor start to the WC last year against (what it tuned out to be) a pretty rubbish Irish side.

Im sure the pool draw was supposed to take the rankings after the Summer interntionals, but Covid has obviously taken that away. if they had used the current rankings we would have been pool 2 instead of Japan

Harsh penalty on scrum there. Long afternoon ahead

Especially when after   the penalty the ref goes over to tell the Connacht guy it should actually be a pen against him and gives him a bit of coaching. Not a good look.
