Treviso's a bit like Galway where winning requires an absolute shift with the sleeves rolled up. I thought our defence was outstanding and even when Sordoni went to the bin we were still well disciplined. Venter was outstanding defensively, but he turned over far too much ball on the carry. Got stripped of it at least twice, and driven back several times. honestly united Posted March 6 Share Posted March 6 Hadnt thought of it until yesterday, but if (and its a massive if tbf) we beat Ireland we win the Triple Crown for the first time in ages (84 & 90 our last 2). Ireland will have the Championship sown up on Saturday with a bonus point win, however the Triple Crown, the same as the Grand Slam dont take into account BP's and its win or nothing. Is there a glimmer of hope that they will over celebrate the Championship win and not turn up at 100% for the last match? France winning the grand slam or Championship and someone else winning the Triple Crown has happened quite a few times (and 5 times since 6 Nations started) but only once in 2014 has a home nation won the Championship (Ireland) but not the Triple Crown (England) 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Doubt it as they would be going for the first back to back grand slam in the 6 Nations era so will be motivated. I just hope we don’t fold like a cheap suit like we did at the WC when they came out all guns blazing and we absolutely shat it. HibeeJibee Posted March 8 Share Posted March 8 (edited) Picking up on posts a couple of weeks ago about the state of the domestic club game... this weekend is Scottish Cup R1 (restricted to top 2 divisions these days), plus League Cup R1 (for tiers 3-5). Following a spate of withdrawals only 14 from 20 clubs actually entered the Scottish Cup, and 2 of those have now scratched their ties saying their can't raise a team; in the League Cup only 26 from 30 clubs actually entered, and 1 of those has now scratched. There were also a few league games cancelled earlier in the season when clubs couldn't raise enough players which used to be unheard of in the national tiers. It's not down to congested schedules - all divisions have been cut to 18 games, and there is no dropping from the cups into Shield / Bowl / Plate nowadays. Despite letting league meetings count as double-headers and attempts to play the remaining games in pre-season or Friday nights during Six Nations, the Border League has also been reduced to a familiar shambles, having 6 of 21 games now outstanding with no agreed dates. In the regional leagues - where majority of divisions have been cut to 14 or even 10 games - many clubs finished their seasons in January or February... seasons have become more like NFL than full-length campaigns. There seems to be a slow-burning crisis in adult participation which has eaten through 2nd XVs/etc. and now reached 1sts.
