Rugby Union

Watching Folau's second try again and it could be an Aussie Rules football mark. Really impressive stuff, then I remembered he used to be an Aussie Rules football player. Looks like he's taken the skill into rugby.

Hes a fabulous talent and always hurts us.

Tonks certainly looked outmatched, didn't he.  You'd expect that from the fourth choice full back though.

That aside thought tonks put in a decent shift. The last time we had a really good team was late 80s/early 90s but if you took more than 2 or 3 guys out if our xv we would have been struggling. Now we seem to have genuine competition for every position. As someone said to beat a side of Australia's calibre with so many lads missing is amazing really.

It's easy to get caught up in hyperbole and such but it's really refreshing to be so upbeat about an aspect of Scottish sport. Regardless of the Fiji result to come this has been a positive tour, people are seeing what Townsend is about (if they hadn't already at Glasgow) quick ball, fast paced attacking rugby. Good times to come.

I actually don't think he's as good a rugby player as he's made out.

He's a tremendous athlete and that makes him look better than he is.

Dunno....maybe he hates Scotland but he pulls some great plays against us....even Seymour in good form couldn't contain him

If we do win in fiji we win the tourney. Today was outstanding. Difference from previous games when weve lost narrowly is that the self belief is there. Toony does a great job of getting into players heads. 4th in the world does seem a wee bit anomalous but theres no doubt we are on an upward curve. Lots of people on Facebook crediting vern but its toony thats developed the core of the team and vern couldn't find wins agajnst the really big nations. If anyone should be sharing credit with toony its lineen who stabilised Glasgow and put a lot of the development systems into place. With a lot of young guys coming through from u20 this is the most optimistic ive been about Scottish rugby since the early 90s.

All true. However Cotter built great foundations which Toony looks to be building on :)

The Lions beat the Maoris, Wales beat Tonga, England beat Argentina and Ireland hammered Japan. Fiji beating Italy was a bit of a shock though. We'll have to win the forward battle vs Fiji next weekend and keep Nakarawa quiet. If not their quick backs could run us ragged.

I'd still maintain that Scotland have had the best win. England have won 2-0 with a weakened team but Argentina just seem lost at sea barring the rare Rugby Championship win and raising their game for world cups. Lethal at going forward vs England but their organisation when defending and penalty count, at home too, was lamentable as per the norm!

Game vs Fiji live on Scottish Rugby's official website. K/o at 3:30am UK time on Sat morning :)

Cotter had the benefit of a group of players developed mostly by toony n lineen and failed to get a single win from England Oz sa n nz. He only scraped one win each v Wales Ireland France n never got higher than 4th in 6n. An exceptionally fortunate draw for rwc masked a guy who had our best squad for 25 years and did very little with it. He struggled to get a full 80 min performance from the team. He often got a very decent 40 but rarely the 80. A year ago we struggled to beat a heavily weakened Japan side. Cotter was very lucky with the media compared to hadden n Robinson who had far poorer players to work with.

The game against Australia definitely goes some way to making up for the last two games against them. And too be done with in theory a weaker squad makes it all the better.

Fiji will be tough but I really look forward to the autumn series and see how we progress further.

Hopefully the good play and good form will spill back into the pro sides for the league campaigns to come
