Ntamack Jr moved from centre, to the bench to fly half. Seems strange releasing the team this early

Especially as Scotland's team is up in the air.  Finn Russell has just been  officially ruled out after failing concussion protocol.

Russell being out may be a huge loss.

Or it may actually be to our advantage that we are forced to play a more forward oriented game. French backs look dangerous, their forwards less so.

Jeremy Guscott had it right.  Scotland don't have the quality in the pack to play a forwards game and the best disrupting players they have are all injured .  The best Scotland can do is utilise their backs and use set pieces and flair in open play.  That what Townsend did as a player, and what he wants his teams to do.  Basteraux is a huge great bugger, but he's not very mobile for a centre.  I'd have loved the match up of Russell and Jones against him.   I don't fancy a Hastings/Horne/Grigg combo anywhere near as much.

And of course, all our best backs are injured as well, and the replacements aren't quite yet up to standard.  I fear a thrashing, and finishing the game with hookers at flanker, and scrum halves on the wing.

We can still put out a decent team. We beat France with Peter Horne playing the majority of the match at 10 a few years ago and he played very well on Saturday night.

The French back 3 were a shambles against England but should be better with Ramos at 15. If we can get ahead early they will break under the pressure.

My team

Dell McInally Berghan Gray Gilchrist Bradbury Ritchie Strauss Laidlaw Horne Seymour Johnson Johnstone Maitland Kinghorn

Bhatti Fagerson Brown Toolis Hardie Price Hastings Harris

TBH I'd have Grigg ahead of Jones every day. Jones seriously off form.

Interesting to see Duncan Weir in there. Offers a different option if needed.

What I like about Duncan Weir is, whilst he's limited, he's a 'safe' 10.  I.e. he doesn't attempt something mercurial and just provides a safe pair of hands.  Finn, for all his majesty, can just about win you a game, but can just about cost you a game in equal measure lol.

Duncan Weir will be solid with boot and get an old drop goal. Part from that he should just boot it over the French defence line and let our strike runners get scrappy trys
