Rutherglen Glencairn 1 East Craigie 1 (8-7 on penalties)

Volunteer Park, Armadale

Scottish Junior Cup semi-final

Great start for EC, scoring in 2nd minute. Both sides had chances - RG hit crossbar, EC hit post, MoM performance from RG goalie - but EC were under more pressure as the match went on and conceded the equaliser in 85 min. Each team had a penalty saved before it went to sudden death with the RG goalie making another good save to take his team to the final.

Another wet day in Berlin but didn't dampen an absolute cracker of a game in s.1 of the bezirkliga ,VFB berlin1911-Aldershofer BC.ended 4-4,ten a side.the ref(no lineos)really had his work cut out with lots of full blooded challenges but also lots of play acting, worst from the home no19,who's blood curdling screams before getting up and on with it were laughable,an utter fanny

Final game of my trip away,a short hop from my last one,the only game I had to pay to get into today,€5,to see the Kreisliga A s.4 game between Sparta Lichtenberg against Fuche Berlin Rheinhagel.not bad crowd, ended 4-2 after a cruising home team did their best to try letting their opponents back into it before making it safe with a minute to go

Not sure where I was going to put this as not football. But played in a football stadium. Concluded my weekend in London by seeing that most Northern English of sports. Rugby League. London Bronchos V Feathersone Rovers at the new Plough Lane stadium. Ticket was £17.50 bought at least 48 hours in advance (£20 or £25 there afterwards) no programmes but a free team sheet was available.

I'd seen Rugby league on TV in the distant past but this was my first live match and it proved to be an entertaining affair. The visitors Featherstone were top after winning all 8 matches this season scoring 360 points against a London team who had won 3 but lost 5 of there games. And coming of the back of a 52-0 trouncing away to second place Toulouse.

A crowd of approx 1200 (swelled by a 200/300 hundred travelling Rovers fans) and most of the home support seemed to be exiled from the North, got speaking to a bloke from Hull and Wakefield who have lived in London for years and now support the Bronchos rather than their home town teams. seen the visitor's score 4 unanswered trys by half time to lead 22-0. This was a tad harsh on the hard working Bronchos team who just didn't (literally) get the bounce of the ball.

Featherstone then scored 2 more trys before London got a score with a powerful run. They then scored the last points after Rovers got a seventh try.

The Stadium is neat and tidy and appears to have a temporary build to it as there is plenty of space behind the stands and they are not brick built. I think AFC Wimbledon have ambitions to expand I'd they go up the leagues and its a way of doing to at a cost effective way.

A good day out

Dumbarton 0-0 Stirling Albion, League Two, 18/04/23.

Games of two halves, for me, Clive, at Dumbarton last night as both sides had the better of it playing with the wind.

Stirling had easily the better of the first half, but, a couple of dangerous corners aside, never really threatened to score. I can't think of any serious work that Brett Long had to do in the Dumbarton goal. Nothing was really coming off for Thomson and Leitch was in and out the game, but to no real effect.

The main danger to Long was that he was warned about time wasting three times in the first fourteen minutes, yet he managed to survive the evening without a card.

Second half Dumbarton were the better side. Some nice wingplay at times from Orsi was dangerous, and they created the better chances.

Stirling Albion had what looked to me (from the other end of the park) a good handball shout for a penalty late on, but I might be wrong. They upped the intensity slightly towards the end, but I was surprised that they made no changes till the 87th minute, given that their attack wasn't really working. I suppose in the big shake-down a draw was fine for them, but I'd maybe have liked to see them go for it a bit more.

So, overall, a fair result I think. The large Stirling support a wee bit disappointed not to get the win to take the title (officially) last night, but they'll get there. Good to see such a big crowd, but the nature of these things makes the crowd funny at this level. The group of guys behind me reacted to 'Stevie Farrell, you're a w****r' chant by wondering to each other who Stevie Farrell was. One of them commenting 'We should have done our research'. The guy next to me had a Rangers background on his mobile.

Still, good to see folk along, and who the f**k am I to talk, I don't support Stirling either.

So, a good turnout and a game that I found interesting while rarely exciting.

Kippen 1-3 Aberfoyle Rob Roy

The Forth and Endrick league is back, so I decided to go to this game between 2 returning teams. Kippen returned after a 5 year absence, while Aberfoyle resigned from the league early last season. The standard was quite poor, poorer than I'm used to in this league, so I can see both clubs struggling against the stronger teams. Kippen were actually the better team when judged on the outfield players, but they didn't have a goalkeeper, so an outfield player had to play and he was pretty poor in goal, which cost them the game. There was a bit of a fight at the end resulting in 2 red cards, first time I've seen reds in this league!

It's a tidy wee ground on the edge of the village, just next to a new development so I had to walk through a bit of a building side. They have a main building with dressing rooms, toilets etc., quite decent facilities for this level. Also for the first time at this level, I noticed a 50/50 draw was being held, I didn't win unfortunately!
