It's called flexibility. These laws are living, breathing statutes that can be changed as situations develop.

Or you realise you fucked it up.

I'm sure you can appreciate that there's a difference between changing a stupid / outdated law, and considering leaving the ECHR to push through a desperate 'back of a fag-packet' bill to pick up a few votes.

The options are “Democrat” or “Republican”. What a weird thing to post in the first place, never mind the richest guy on the planet amplifying it.

Elon Musk routinely shares right wing propaganda, knowing full well it's a load of shit.  He's a poster boy for conspiracy theory fuckwits.

This may be the sickest thing I've seen yet from a politician. What's wrong with these arseholes? What an utterly awful human being.

There was a great interview from French TV with the President of Congo going around the other day. The (french) interviewer is absolutely incredulous when the president suggests that, to most of the world, there is little moral difference between the western powers and the Chinese and Russians.

At least Nikki Hailey is saying it with her chest. I've far got more contempt for the supposedly moderate "Israel has the right to defend itself" brigade, who have spent 8 months pretending not to hear the senior Israeli politicians publicly declaring that they were going into Gaza to kill everyone.

"The former head of the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, allegedly threatened a chief prosecutor of the international criminal court in a series of secret meetings in which he tried to pressure her into abandoning a war crimes investigation, the Guardian can reveal.

Yossi Cohen’s covert contacts with the ICC’s then prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, took place in the years leading up to her decision to open a formal investigation into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in occupied Palestinian territories."

Watched C4 Dispatches last night 'Kill Zone : Inside Gaza'.  Absolutely heartbreaking.

Follow up to that:

The limits to these ICC arrest warrants have correctly been pointed out. I think what these revelations show, though, is that there is at least some weight to them. These Israeli figures wouldn't have gone to all this effort otherwise.

From Jerusalem, last August. Worth considering these stories to give a flavour of what goes on throughout the occupied territories and long before last October.

If found guilty the cops should be subsequently punished. The rule of law being applied evenly and fairly to all is the cornerstone of democracy.

A good post from The Farter.

Yeah, but it’s Israel so it doesn’t count.

This is antisemitic.  Obviously Hamas planted these there.

How do you know those are are 'illegal white phosphorus shells'?

It's true that simply having white phosphorus munitions isn't illegal as their primary use is supposed to be as a smoke screen and so their use against military targets isn't prohibited, but it's illegal to use them in civilian areas as the risk of indiscriminate harm to non-combatants is so high (something Israel clearly cares deeply about). If they're used in Rafah it would therefore be illegal, and they have used them in Gaza as well as Lebanon since October.

Pale green with red and yellow bands denotes US M825A1 155 mm artillery shells.

Netanyahu has been invited to address a joint meeting of Congress.

What sort of fucked up world are we living in where a man actively engaged in genocidal acts is being lauded in this way by the most powerful country in the world.

The USA is a monstrous joke and many European countries are enablers.
