  1. Will update this as the summer goes on:

Yeah from what I heard he was excellent in a more attacking role.  This is where he played when he was at his best for us years ago.  Happy he's signed on IF we keep him away from defensive midfield.

    So the current team:

GK - Cammy Gill (signed from Dunfermline)

DF - Ross Clarke, Fraser Mullen, Craig Barr, Jamie Todd

MF - Robbie Buchanan, Kyle Miller, Gavin Morrison, Harvey Swann

FW - Liam Buchanan (Alloa), Kris Renton

    Long way to go 🤣

Left - Michael Herd (Spartans), Iain Russell (retired), Jamie Pyper, Mac Whyte, Jay Sandison, Jacob Glass, Lewis Owens, Ryan Finnie

No idea -  Ross Pollock, Lennon Watson, Graham Taylor.

Southampton.  Not bad.  Looks quite good although the orange part of the sponsor frustrates me.   This is a kit with a hidden secret that sounds....um...interesting?

The shirt is also integrated with Augmented Reality technology that fans can scan with their smartphones to bring the shirt to life and gain access to exclusive content, including a 3D James Ward-Prowse in their living room.

Just what all Southampton fans want.

Can’t argue with any of that. However, It’s a moot point at the moment given the collapse of the construction contract. In footballing terms, we seemed to have taken a penalty kick against a blind, one-legged keeper and somehow smashed it off the crossbar all the way back into our own goal. But hey, maybe there’s a cunning plan we just don’t know about yet.

Off topic but this reminds me of playing football in my back garden with my uncle when I was a kid.  I was practising penalties and I kept hitting every one straight at him so he went and got a garden chair, sat down and pulled his top up over his head. I couldn't miss!

Ball smacked him in the leg and he took his top down to find me face down on the ground screaming.  Still spoken about.

  5. While it's important to look at the teams who could go down I think it's more interesting to look at which teams might come up.  Brora and Fraserburgh are the top 2 in the Highland League usually while I presume Bonnyrigg Rose and East Kilbride will fancy their chances in the Lowland League this season.  BSC Glasgow have lost their manager and players to Stenny so doubt they'll be up there.

People will obviously look at ourselves and Albion Rovers as the next clubs to be battling the drop but Annan could easily be down the bottom next season.

Kris Renton and Ross Clarke have signed for another season.

Good news.  I think Liam Buchanan and Renton is an interesting front 2 for next season.  Clarke hopefully recovers fully from his horror injury - hopefully allows Swann (if he stays) to play higher up the field.

  8. Good luck to Brechin this week.  Was chatting to a work colleague about some of the good trips I've had to Brechin:

    • Brechin 5 v 7 Cowdenbeath.  Still the most surreal match I've ever attended
    • Brechin 0 v 3 Cowdenbeath.  Promotion to the Championship for the first time in my time supporting the club
    • Brechin 0 v 1 Cowdenbeath.  Random Scottish Cup replay where Dougie Hill scored the winner for us.

All the best against Kelty - I fear you haven't a hope in hell so I'll be praying for a miracle!

Not fantastic, truth be told. People were really quick to tell us: "Wow, Greig Spence is a great signing for League 2!" after he joined from Arbroath in January 2020, but they obviously hadn't realised he'd gone two years without scoring in the league. He played okay-ish in some matches and chipped in with the odd goal but he certainly wasn't the talismanic penalty-box striker some of us had hoped for.

This season, with Davie Irons determined to play a 4-3-3 formation no matter what, Spence was used as a wide forward (?) and a number 10 (?), roles that really didn't suit him, and he was eventually packed off on loan to East Fife. I don't think he made much of an impression there.

He might do well back at Cowdenbeath and he could form a good partnership with Liam Buchanan, but I'd treat his signing with caution if I were you.

Oh not saying we've signed him.  Was just surprised to see him released. Thanks for the reply!

  10. Right your car has broken down and you need to get somewhere.  Which option do you take?

    • Your insurance provider gets you a taxi to take you to your destination while they take the car to the garage.

    OR

    • You go with Bumblebee the Transformer to your destination.

Who in their right mind would go "nah I'll take the taxi thanks".  Bumblebee will be quicker, be a much more interesting chat AND imagine rocking up with a bloody transformer as opposed to Phil the taxi driver.  That's a story and a half right there.

The frustration for the Lowland League is the lack of opportunity for ambitious clubs to progress through the pyramid

So adding in Rangers and Celtic Colts helps this because.....

    Quote

The Lowland League will be innovative, modern and creative and look at the bigger picture, put Scottish football first

How does this put Scottish Football first?  It literally benefits the development of players for Rangers and Celtic...by playing friendlies against Lowland League teams.
    image.png.6086a2996e8a26538eaef722af1f740f.png

This is from Wiki and it's their current 'B' team.  Are you saying that these players would benefit more from playing friendlies or from what they are doing now and playing competitive matches at a higher level?

    Quote

This proposal will inject new money into the Lowland League for a 12 month period as well as increase sponsorship and broadcast opportunities

Who is going to watch their team play a friendly on Rangers TV?  If Cowden were relegated and had a game v either the Old Firm Colts I don't even think I'd be keeping an eye on Twitter to see the score nevermind watching the bloody game.

Clubs may have one player / coach aged 33 or older who cannot play in the clubs first team

What's the point in this?  Which Rangers or Celtic player will be excited by this prospect?

    Quote

    1) Manager – UEFA Pro Licence 2) Asst. Manager – A Licence 3) Sports Scientist – MSc in Sports related discipline 4) Physio – Chartered 5) GK Coach – UEFA GK Licence 6) Analyst – Degree educated 7) Doctor – minimum 15 hours per week 8) Team Operations Manager

The list of staffing requirements.  I'm sure all other Lowland league teams have Sports Scientists.

    £25,000 entry fee.

Aaah so let's just buy a place in the league system.  How far does £25k get you?  Obviously it's much needed income but it's not a large amount of money especially if clubs still need to do covid testing etc.

    Quote

    • Gate income – circa £5000 per lowland League club (based on a conservative 500 supporters x £5 x 2 fixtures)

Thank God that's a conservative estimate as it might look silly otherwise.

Social Media – over 2 million followers across all platforms

So Rangers Colts are playing BSC Glasgow on Saturday at 3pm.  Is the Official Rangers Twitter account doing live updates from the game? Or would they likely just mention the fact there's a game?
