  1. Obviously missing Anderson up top, but we have looked good going forward - Hewitt has looked passable so far, one or two little mistakes but has put some decenet crosses in whene he has got forward
  2. After signing the tongan backrower last week Glasgow sign TJ Ione https://www.glasgowwarriors.org/news/ioane-makes-scotstoun-loan-switch Cant see any length of the loan, but sounds like for the whole season. After telling everyone that there was no money thats another 2 new players in for this season. part of me would rather see some of the youngsters given a chance as its not as if they can get relegated and we couldbe blooding some Scottish talent, but on the other I would rather be watching a team thats winning every week
  3. From the hihglights McCowan looked he is back to the sort of form he had at the start of last season which was good to see, as he had gone of the boil about half way through last season, so that was really pleasing, and as has been said some of the interplay was superb. Downsides were we seemed to give them too much space in attack, and sat off letting them come on to us, although most were from long range there were far too many shots from rovers which against better teams would have been taken or caused us more problems. Overall a good start, and hopefully we see another good performance against Hamilton as a decent cup run could be vital for the coffers this year.
  4. As there will only be about 2 and a half months from the league starting till the January window I wonder if we will go with what we have until then? Moffat can cover 9 and 10, McCowan and Zanatta anywhere across the attacking mid 3, McKenzie from the little I have seen would be adequate from a game or 2, Houston, Millar and Aero can cover DM, and would Chalmers be able to play further forward? It looks Kerr has targeted players that can play numerous positions so we can run with a smaller squad. We have a very obvious starting 11, but looks like we have numerous options for back up in each
  5. you can still sign anyone on a free at any time - so anyone that has been released we could still sign - the window only counts for actual transfers between clubs
  6. Im sure the pool draw was supposed to take the rankings after the Summer interntionals, but Covid has obviously taken that away. if they had used the current rankings we would have been pool 2 instead of Japan POSITION TEAMS POINTS 1 (1) SOUTH AFRICA 94.20 2 (2) NEW ZEALAND 92.12 3 (3) ENGLAND 88.42 4 (4) IRELAND 84.92 5 (5) FRANCE 82.74 6 (6) WALES 82.65 7 (7) AUSTRALIA 81.91 8 (8) SCOTLAND 80.69 9 (9) JAPAN 79.29 10 (10) ARGENTINA 78.31 11 (11) FIJI 76.21 12 (12) GEORGIA 72.86 13 (13) TONGA 71.44 14 (14) ITALY 71.08 So it would have been Band 1: South Africa, New Zealand, England, Ireland Band 2: Wales, Australia, France, Scotland Band 3: Japan, Argentina, Fiji, Italy Band 4: Oceania 1, Europe 1, Americas 1, Asia / Pacific 1 Band 5: Africa 1, Europe 2, Americas 2, Final Qualifier Winner
  7. I was dipping in and out of the stream yesterday and think there was usually between 700-900 people viewing. Im not sure how that would compare to normal - ie more people would be willing / able to watch on Saturday afternoon for a league or cup game as opposed to a friendly, but then how many would you have lost as you would have to pay for it rather than free, and obviously season ticket holders are not paying? As you have a large number of exiles both Ayr fans and the opposition that will be taking the opportunity to get to the see the team play I reckon around the 1000 would be a reasonable estimate
  8. I see Finn and Hoggy are in the shortlst for European player of the year, 2 out of the 5 selected. I feel sorry for the Cheetahs if they get punted to make it a 16 team league as they have been fairly decent, unlike the kings. Also with all the SA talent being split across just 4 teams could see them dominating the league as well, so them having 5 or 6 teams would be better for us. Or go with 5 and then have an additional team from Georgia / Spain / Russia / Romania to make up the 18. I see they have a contract until 2023 or something to play in Pro14 so will be interestinf to see what happens I think the idea of 3 leagues of 6 (1 x Scotland and Wales, 1 x Ireland & Italy and 1 x SA and AN other) play everyone in your conference H&A then every other team once for 22 game season would mean that everyone else only has to travel to SA 3 times max - best 2 league winners into semi final, then worst winner and 3 2nd place teams play off for a semi final place
  9. Just on the question of hospitality what is to stop clubs selling packages for lunch as every other restaurant is, and let guests sit at their seats in hospitality and "admire the view out the window" while the game is on? in essence they are not charging admission to the game, just £25 for a cheese toastie and a cup of tea and a seat for a couple of hours?
  10. Im always suprised when you hear fans of clubs at our level go on about the window closing as its a fairly rare occasion we actually sign someone via a transfer - im not sure if Baird counts (was he released by St Mirren?) but before that im sure you would have to go back to the likes of Hurst and Reynolds for the last time we actually signed someone in a proper transfer
  11. Im fairly certain there is no window on free agents, apart from the end of season - ie you cant sign anyone from March onwards. As long as they haven't played (or maybe had a contract) for another club while the window is shut, its basically stopping someone unemployed getting a job if they are not allowed to sign
  12. Having looked at Wiki for the original club, it appears they were an amateur club playing in the Isthmian League I had wondered if it was the advent of professionalism, as they were originally one of the top teams but by the time of the second world war had slipped down the ranks, but the Isthmian League was amateur until the 70's. Without doing too much digging it may have just been the better players gravitated to the professional ranks rather than play the odd amateur game?
  13. If your going down the road of bringing London Caledonians back from the grave, their original ground Caledonian Park still has pitches https://goo.gl/maps/E68e3AApwBEa1soZA
  14. The thing that beggars belief in the whole crowds in stadiums debate is that in England their are clubs that have fairly decent gates allowing fans in (or were up to yesterday) while we haven't even started back yet. My local club is Tamworth and they played in the FA cup qualifiers yesterday in front of about 400 fans, lower than their average gates (600 to 1000 range) but still fairly big considering. It was their first competitive home game and cant see the attendance at their home friendlies, but for a ground that is smaller that Somerset (I would say its similar size to Stair Park in Stranraer, smaller stand but bigger terrance). I wasn't there so cant comment on socially distancing etc, although that is probably what is causing the rise in cases!!!
  15. Are they only on Amazon or are they going to be live on BBC / Sky / Premier?
  16. Was the player on his way back from Aberdeen when he stopped in Glasgow to sign?
  17. I remember at the start of last season playing some brilliant football with a front 3 of Forrest, Moffat and McCowan with a midfield 3 of Kerr, Doc and Kelly wonder if Kerr is thinking of reverting to something similar this year or going with a more direct route with a big target man
  18. Edinburgh game was very annoying. In control for 60 minutes, Ulster winger does well for the first try, although Kinghorns position leaves a lot to be desired, but with 20 to go, 12 points up its a case of dont do anything stupid, dont give away stupid penalties and try and play the game in the oppositions half and the games yours, they didn't manage any of those. As has been said Gilchrist was just lying on the wrong side every tackle, he did look done in though and should have been taken off to stop it happening. Fair play to Ulster for sticking at it, but I would say it was as much a fitness issue. Felt sorry for Willemse but you need to go for those with both hands, anything one handed now is a penalty
  19. Zanatta, Walsh and Baird are the sort of signings we could only dream off a few years ago, shows how much hte club have come on in the last few years
  20. Im sure Messi played the old football manager when Kerr was one of the Iconic players, its been his boyhood dream to play with him.....
  21. I always thought Ashe would be the next big thing, dont think he has ever reached his full potential. Probably down to 3rd choice no.8 at Glasgow behind Fagerson and Wilson, probably best all round if he moves on, might be best for him to try and get some game time to push on. Probably still time for him to get himself back in the international reckoning but needs a couple of solid years. Still leaves Glasgow short, you would have thought he would be guaranteed to start during the international break. I know he said that we wouldn't be making any signings but surely they must have someone lined up to give a bit more cover in the back row?
  22. SRU no longer has anything to do with London Scottish after the clun management decided not to sign a full squad as thought the SRU would prop them up with loan signings. I think a football club would be able to thrive to a certain extent in London. Probably up to Conference south sort of level, but once there you either need a support in the thousands, or someone willing to through money at it - as a focal / social point for Scots in London though would probably be a good idea
  23. I think having sold 400 6 weeks or so out form the start of the season, when there are no guarantee's you will actually get into the ground to watch any of the games is not too bad. In fact there is no guarantee the games will actually start in October at the moment. Its commendable that other clubs fans have bought early, but as has been pointed out the majority of Ayr fans historicaly dont buy until closer to the season starting, so you cant compare others sales until the season starts
