  1. We had some truly world class players at the end of the amateur era, we just weren't prepared for / make a complete mess of turning professional. I think we are slowly catching up but i think we have some way to go. In other news it looks like Frisby and Halanukonuka have played there last game for Glasgow. The big prop was decent, but not outstanding, Frisby though, having played for Australia and to come in from a top 14 club I was expecting so much more. Dropped during the WC for 17 year old kinda says it all. Frisby and Halanukonuka to exit Glasgow
  2. I started of thinking that 14-14-14 could get in the sea, however on thinking about it im coming round to the idea. Yes adding some of the seaside dross, if there is a split in the league we would only have to play them twice, one home game, then the other home games would be against a top half teams (hopefully) so potentially increasing crowds. Additionally if you are playing some teams less the crowds may increase just as its new teams. On current form we would be one of the teams going for promotion next year - (again hopefully) , if its league of 14 would there be more automatic promotion / relegation slots? Also as has been said, if we have a bad year extra teams means we have a better chance of staying up
  3. I think there is a case for Metcalfe being the best full back we ever had
  4. I'd totally forgoten Iain Jardine ever existed!! I think Joiner sold a couple of tries in that one, as did Hastings with his dreadfull atempt at a tackle. Im suprised we actually won that game. Although Morrison, Wainright and Peters were all good players, they were no match for Jeffries, Calder etc and again not having Armstrong would be a blow to any team. The camera work was shocking at time, the ball was not even close at some point to where the camera's were pointing. And the pictures were really flickery as well. It was as if they had recorded the match on VHS (having taped over some old films) and then ran the vhs into a PC to get a digital copy!! Edit - saying that about Campbell, I remembered another nearly forgettable 2nd row, Stuart Grimes, who I only remember about as I had a drunken night out once in Birmingham with hos brother at the time when he was in the team! I had never met him before and found out he was trying to pull a girl I went to school with.
  5. Watched the highlights the BBC have put up of the 95 France game, just for the Tooney flip! Was really suprised by the huge turn over of players from the 90 Grand slam team, only Kenny Milne, Damian Cronin, Craig Chalmers and Gavin Hastings still in the team, but you also have the likes of Weir, Wright, Townsend, Logan, Wainright, Redparth and Peters who are all mainstays on the team in the late 90's
  6. I've used the click and collect this week, ordered first thing Sunday morning but didn't get the confirmation it was ready to collect until next day. Also saw some old boy trying to walk into the store, but he got short shrift from staff
  7. Although if Talbot get there floodlights up and working over the summer it wont be an issue as you will be able to play midweek during the winter (unless there are any issues with the pitch) rather than having to cram in all the fixtures into the last month or so of the season
  8. I dont think its anything to do with number of SPFL relegation spots, its more to do with having licensed teams able to get promoted. Without checking I think there has only been 1 promotion play off since the LL started (Kelty vs Threave) and on a fair number of years no licensed champions of EoS or SoS. Im fairly certain if there were license teams missing out on promotion year on year due to the play off they would do something about it.
  9. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/52262176 Pichot going for the top job at World Rugby, this could see the biggest shake up in the game as he is firmly on the side of the tier 2 nations and growing hte game, rather than bending over to ensure the top nations stay there and keep all the money in the game to themselves
  10. I read it as there are 157 contracted players, and only those earning above 50,000 would be taking a pay cut. More worrying the mention players earning more than £200k, how many of those do you think we have?
  11. How many SoS teams are licensed and how many WoS? As things stand at the moment* there's more chance of a SoS team being promoted to the LL than a WoS *I appreaciate there are WoS teams actively pursuing a license but doesn't mean they will have everything in place by Feb.
  12. They were in a bad shape before this happened, the previous pro League was a shambles, they paid over the odds to host games and didn't draw the crowds they thought they would, and moving the sevens from Vegas to San Francisco hasn't gone well either
  13. It's quicker to go from Gretna to the centre of Glasgow than it is to Newton Stewart. Dumfries to Glasgow is also quicker than Dumfries to Stranraer due to the roads
  14. He's probably thinking if the season doesn't end then he doesn't have to pay out on position bonus' like last year!
  15. Just as an aside, and to tie in a few loose ends in terms of numbers in the Scottish Cup, fixture backlogs etc could the following not be a decent solution if bye in could be achieved All clubs in the South as well as league play in the South Challenge Cup plus their own league cup All licensed teams play in the Scottish Cup Scrap the Alex Jack cup in the east and the equivalent for SoS teams, and all unlicensed teams play in the Junior Cup with the winner (along with any unlicensed eos, wos or sos (plus any other senior league below HL) league winners) are the only teams that gain entry to the Scottish Cup. teams that want to get a license and progress have the Scottish cup to play in, those that dont still have the Junior cup and a chance to enter the Scottish the year after it. Junior cup games played on the same dates as Scottish Cup Prelims onwards so no clash of dates. Open to any unlicensed teams so include NCL, North & East Juniors, SoS, EoS and WoS (if moved over intact) No extra dates, everyones happy
  16. If I'd stayed at home I could have had a game this afternoon as club rugby in England is still going ahead today, games only being cancelled if someone has any symptoms
  17. Cardiff is heaving already, pub I'm in us rammed, probably more chance of catching something in here than at the game
  18. Oh well it's an afternoon in the pub rather than the principality stadium, probably more chance of picking up Corona in the pub than the stadium
  19. Think it will definately go ahead, govt haven't stopped any other events so cant see why they would cancel this. (im going anyway so a weekend in Cardiff no matter what!!)
  20. 3 changes for Scotland this week, McInally and Brown swap places, as do Skinner comes in for Cummings, and Bradbury comes in for Haining who misses out due to illness with Fagerson promoted to the bench
  21. I think this weekend is huge now, if we win at QoS and ICT and Dundee beat Arbroath and Dunfermline then we build a healthy gap over the teams in 5 & 6
  22. Forgot about that, had checked the fixtures on our website, and its still listed in March
  23. With 3 players in the U21 squad for the games on 27th and 31st I am assuming the away game vs ICT on the 28th will be postponed into April?
