Petty Things That Get On Your Nerves...
Soapy FFC replied to well fan for life's topic in The General Nonsense Forum
I've found the trick is to get the Scottish based retentions team who are always very helpful, unlike the normal customer service team who are there to sell you stuff, not save you money. I re-contracted 2 days ago, and no admin fees. -

I do it every 18 months and always go straight through to retentions (I have their number saved) and never pretend I'm going to leave. I did it a couple of days ago as my package was going to increase by £30 odd per month. I didn't say I was wanting to leave, just that I wanted the price lower. A few minutes speaking to the guy with the Glasgow accent, and the new price for the next 18 months is what I had been paying. I asked him why I had to keep doing this, and his explanation was that the lower price was due to offers which are for a fixed period and tie you into a new 18 month contract, and they are not allowed to automatically reapply reductions after 18 months due to them requiring a new contract lock-in. Years ago I did try to get a price reduction by threatening to get rid of Sky Sports. Rather than the woman then trying to talk me out of it by giving me a reduction, she simply went " that's it cancelled" and a few minutes later my sports channels went blank. -

Thank goodness for google image search for a lot of these -
I've often wondered what would happen if a party won a large majority at an election, but the party leader failed to win their seat. Would the other parties call for another election, or just accept a different leader as PM without question? ETA: Or would they do a Cameron type thing, make the leader a Lord, and then make him PM?

I find it's normally only the first letter that's capitalised. -
I use the A985 from Fife (boo, hiss, etc, etc) to the Kincardine Bridge. At the roundabout at the start of the Kincardine bypass, I've lost count of the number of time people go in the right lane (A in the picture below), indicate right, then go straight on exiting on the left lane (B below), ignoring the fact you are in the left lane going straight ahead. People like that shouldn't be allowed on the road.
-
I would say no, as the highway code says you don't indicate right for intermediate openings. However, as always, it's probably open to interpretation.
-
Going by the Highway Code, and from how I read your description, I'd be in the right lane
-
That would almost imply an integrated public transport system.
-
I wonder what the Council's stance on planning permission for houses would be.
-
Tied in with that is when a roundabout is 'improved' by signalisation, and the lanes that you would be in on the roundabout in a free moving one bear no relation to the lanes you need to be in where you get stopped at traffic lights on the roundabout.

I prefer this take on where we sit in the scheme of things

In the early 1970's if I found a 1/2p coin when out playing, I could buy a couple of blackjacks or fruit salad chews from the ice cream van. -

I only skim read it, but was that not a case in English courts, a different legal system from us? -

Also, the Peter Murrell arrest yesterday was another good deflection from MP kidnapping story. -
The home gym guy from the Tesco Whoosh advert would make an excellent serial killer.

I didn't know they were in that!

I've watched a couple of documentaries about Theranos and I have absolutely no sympathy for the real Elizabeth Holmes, who has the eyes and look of a psychopath. -

It's still more money than I can probably spend in my lifetime. But I'm a simple person who thinks the lottery jackpot is more than I'd ever need. -

Got an email from Chargeplace Scotland on 10th April saying that their payment provider is changing on 15th April and I need to update my payment details by 15th April otherwise I will be blocked from using the network and I won't be able to charge the car. The website is down, and apparently has been for 3 days, so not possible to get onto my account. I love it when you get so much notice of change. Thankfully I charge at home, and haven't needed to use the network for a couple of years. -
