  1. I hate it when people, ok Americans, use pounds instead of tons when talking about a large amount of stuff.
  2. What jurisdiction? And are you asking for a friend?
  3. Just spent half an hour cleaning blood off of the patio after a sparrowhawk decided to kill and eat a pigeon on it. Lovely. The plus point is one less feral pigeon going about.
  4. Am I the only one that removes the plastic strip before cooking?
  5. I remember that from my childhood, I think Malcolm Allan used to sell it.
  6. Just like the Inuit have several words for snow, the Scots have several words for a type of sausage...
  7. Looking at the Scottish Gas website it has that claimed saving there. It says the figures come from the Energy Saving Trust. So heading over to that site, the figure is found there, along with several assumptions and caveats. One of the things it says is (after a bit of digging around on the site) So like you say, savings may be made, but possibly only after a large outlay.
  8. I have a Technaxx TX-117 trail cam that I use to monitor specific areas when needed, the battery life is good, and it only uses 4 AAs. I got it in Costco for about £45. I also have a Tapo C320WS outdoor webcam fixed to the fence in the top corner of the garden. This records the whole garden 24/7 so I can look back over the last few days to see if there has been anything of interest in the garden. I’ve got it set up to record all the time, but you can set it to only record on motion detection etc. Amazon has them for about £55 as I remember it. My picture of the four hedgehogs a few posts up was from that camera, it's zoomed in a but but it gives you an idea of the nighttime quality. The hedgehogs are probably about 10-12 feet from the camera.
  9. She went to make a cup of hot chocolate tonight, and goes straight to the cupboard to get a glass jug. When I asked what that's for, I'm told it's to heat the milk up in in the microwave. I go, can you not just heat it up in the cup? She was taken aback I do it that way, even although earlier in the day she had warmed up soup in a cup in the microwave.
  10. I'll do that with peppermint tea, or these herbal fruit ones.
  11. So basically, for the sake of a few custard creams and some milk, they destroyed probably the only discount supermarket in the area. Great move.
  12. The proper way to make tea is in a teapot, then when you pour it into a cup the individual can decide to have milk in first or not. Having said that, I'm lazy and always make it in the cup, so for me water first, teabag out then milk in. Putting the milk in first means the water's not hot enough to brew the tea. Also, apparently you need to let it brew for 3 minutes to let the healthy antioxidants be released.
  13. Sony only stopped making and selling blank betamax cassettes in 2016
  14. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-66448432 It doesn't take long before the report says "It is operated by National Records of Scotland (NRS), an official arm of the Scottish government." Reading the various other reports about recent data leaks and hacks at PSNI and the Electoral Commission there is no attempt to tie the various bodies to a specific Govt. Funny that.
  15. https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/transport/edinburgh-airport-bosses-draft-in-couriers-to-tackle-baggage-chaos-as-passengers-report-delays-of-up-to-two-weeks-4248365 I take it the airport is only responsible for extracting money from passengers.
  16. One of the best South Park episodes ever was "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers"
  17. I'm getting smart meters installed next week as wanted a smart gas meter, and as part of the install the smart electricity meter I've had for a few years is being upgraded. Without the smart electricity meter my yearly bill would be about £600 more than it currently is as I have an electric car that charges over night when the rate is about 30% of normal.

  19. I was thinking along the same lines when I was looking at his sign in the window of student accommodation.
  20. It's interesting using google maps street view to look at the border down that way, where you have houses either side of the fence.
  21. Lee says he's not in the Govt. Typical loudmouth, stir things but take no responsibility.
  22. I tend to think of the M9 from Edinburgh to Stirling as going East/West but I think officially it's classed as North/South, so I get confused when traffic news talks about roadworks North bound etc.
