  1. I couldn't tell what formation we were playing at times yesterday. We seemed to change shape several times in the second half for short periods of time. On the new signings, Hogarth can't kick for toffee. He was shanking the ball out of play regularly. Marc McCallum is a perfect paradox of that, wonderful kick outs. Kelly took his goal really well but flitted in and out of the game. Hopefully we'll see him more as the season goes on as I think he offered more than Ryan Wallace. Healy looks a handy player and I like the look of him. Lennon isn't good enough for me. Looks a weak link. Newbury will make a career for himself in football. He's skinny as a whip and quite slight of build, but Russell McLean couldn't get past him. He always seemed to get a foot or head where it needed to be. I said yesterday I wonder if full back or deep midfield may be where he finds his niche in time. A classy player and a good signing.

I thought Wilson and Malcolm had decent games yesterday. As did Ruth, who finally got a goal. His movement and effort are good, but he'll need to up his numbers more often. Tony Wallace should be undroppable for me. Finlay Gray has a great engine, but someone needs to teach him how to pass a ball, that being the primary task of a central midfielder.

f**k sake boys, I’m depressed after reading this thread this morning. Get a few beers down you and enjoy your Saturday afternoon win, lose or draw. Vent your frustrations on here when we inevetibly make an arse of it and don’t let it ruin your weekend. Remember it’s just 22 daft guys kicking a wee white sphere around a narrow tottie field.

That's what I've been trying to say for months. You've just said it better.

On the game, today's team seems like it was picked by tombola, but we're winning at half time so fingers crossed.

    Folks,

I'll be in Bar72 from around 2pm onwards tomorrow and after the game for 30mins or so if anyone wants to catch up or chat through anything.

Been catching up with the wider Trust this week and hopefully the board/Owners officially in the coming weeks. Most of my knowledge is "fan based" vs "Director" but would be good to hear good/bad etc points from people.

I trust that in gratitude for all of our votes, you'll be putting a few quid behind the bar.

  4. Keeping a core squad together in advance is a policy I'm happy with in general terms. The old days of everyone on a season long contract and 20 new players each summer always struck me as amateurish. So I can see the sense in aiming for continuity rather than yearly rebuilding, but that only makes sense on paper. In reality, until a manager who can get the team prepared for pressure games is appointed it won't be effective. We saw in the first half of last season the kind of form that champions need; grinding out wins consistently even on days when the team were having an off day, the weather or pitch was poor and the opposition were stuffy. But the absurd collapse in form from December onwards last term, and the similarly insipid performances and form this season show that the management of the team has run it's course. All managers have a shelf life at clubs, and when it's not happening for them anymore it's very obvious and impossible to ignore.

On individual players, I'd personally not be keen to keep David Wilson, Callum Wilson or any of the guys who are out on loan. Farrell generally has a good track record in recruitment and there are some handy players at the club who I'm otherwise happy to see continue here, but I think a change in leadership will be needed to get a tune out of them.

Thank you. I might be quiet for a week or so while reading up on everything and speaking to all sides but the end goal has to be what's right for the club.

While it would have been nice to see the turn out higher, I think the quick turn around and the minimal voting options would be the main driver. In the future we will work to have more options and that should drive up the turn out.

I look forward to our new stands.

All the best and good luck.

That season had some really insane games. I've never seen anything like the 3-2 win at Forfar with 9 men and 4-5 defeat at home to Ayr. That was the first season I was old enough to really feel any major disappointment supporting Sons. Fortunately I was too young to remember the relegation seasons in the 90s.

That was my first season going. Been 19 years of ups and downs since.

Great player. Strange he didn't seem to have much of a career after us.

Didn't really think about him after he left us. Looks like he chucked it years ago. Or has been playing at a level not covered by reports. Probably realised he'd peaked by turning out for us.

Some daft transfer rumours account on Twitter suggested they got £125k but I’d take that with a pinch of salt.

    Fake news.

I asked how he was doing in the Lowland League as I hadn’t seen much mention of his name. There was a general discussion between a few folk about his numbers being fairly poor this year compared to the likes of Niah Joseph. You mentioned Farrell probably not wanting to sign him anyway and I said neither would I IF he was underperforming in the league below.

I'll be speaking to Niyah Joseph's mum in 11 minutes so I'll see if I can hammer out a deal.

Reminds me a bit of Jamie Stevenson to Mallorca (I think) when they were in La Liga. I'm sure there was also a guy who went from East Fife to Spurs in the early 2000s, but I can't remember his name.

Fomer Sons player Denis McLaughlin played for a La Liga team's B squad before going to Hearts and then Dumbarton. Scorer of a 400 (FOUR HUNDRED) yard volley against Shire at The Rock.
