I have absolutely nae idea what your point is here tbh. Cowdenbeath, Albion Rovers, Berwick Rangers and East Stirling had some of the smallest core supports in the SPFL, and had numerous season between them at the arse end of Division 3/League 2. When the pyramid opened up they were always going to struggle and I don’t think a single soul expected them to start tearing things up in the Lowland league. Albion Rovers looked a fairly decent side last season but I’m not entirely shocked they haven’t adjusted well.

The raging hardon some folk get over previous SPFL clubs struggling after being relegated is utterly bizarre stuff.

FWIW Brechin are 1 point behind 1st placed Banks O’ Dee with 2 games in hand.

Absolutely this. You're talking about clubs who struggled to make three figures of home support at times, were often in peril both on and off the park and who play in utter crumbling dumps, whose own home towns don't give two fucks about them. Some of them a bawhair above amateurs, basically separated from Saturday league by having stands and maybe a social club. If the pyramid hadn't been introduced they'd likely have gone bust at some point. Don't get me wrong, they all had purple patches in League One, even the Championship in Cowden's case, but those were unusual spells in the history of those clubs. It's absolutely no surprise that as soon as the trap door came into existence they all started finding their natural level.

That's a nice idea, but if Ed City's new owners couldn't tell they were being sold a timebomb, then I'm sure the previous owners could have presented a plausible case to meet whatever criteria the league put in place. Certainly to the point where it could hold up in court.

"So Kelty Hearts, is your business model sustainable?"

"Oh yes, unfortunately we really don't have much money to spend on players, probably start the season with Old Jock as coach. It'll be a struggle to stay in the league, but we've got a strong community behind us."

    "Sounds great, you're in."

"Thank you! We're delighted!" [gets on phone] "Hello, yes, are you the agent for Kallum Higginbotham?"

However, my biggest worry, having followed Scottish football for decades, is that any fit and proper test would be applied very differently to some clubs/prospective owners than others. (See also: UEFA FFP rules.)

I suppose an objective, simple and fair law might be something like having a maximum percentage of previous season's income from a certain number of sources. For example, if 70% of your income came from two sponsors then you would fail, but if 70% of your income was from prize money, gate receipts, league funding and club lottery, then you'd be fine. However, accountants will always find a way around these things.

A Fife based friend of mine and former member of this parish (mon' the honey badgers) has always insisted that the Kelty Hearts money men "sell conservatories by the gram..."

Yep, gotta love ‘ambitious’ clubs that throw money around like confetti then cry a few season later when the bubble bursts.

Queens Park has entered the chat.

Well of course it's all about opinions, but IMHO your closing sentence is fatally flawed - football matches are not played on paper and on the evidence available so far we don't have either the best squad or the best team.

We've taken four points from a possible twelve from the teams around us, and that has zip to do with bottling or shitting it.  You've made a very bold statement and you are using defeats to justify it, instead of recognising that players like Andy McCarthy, Ross Taylor, Jamie Dishington and Michael Anderson might just be half decent and playing for teams that might themselves be half decent.

But let me finish with a quick question - if we DID agree that we have the best squad how would you now go about getting the results ?

By scoring more goals than the other teams. Easy.

Of course we did, just like we have every single time we have had any form of big game over the last 3 seasons. Whether that be a general league fixture or playoff games. It’s a classic trait of a Stevie Farrell side. We absolutely dominated those first 25 minutes and barely tested the Stenny keeper then proceeded to shit the bed.

Our squad on paper is the best in the league by a decent margin IMHO.

Hard to disagree with that assessment, Moj. We were on top and looking dangerous and then just saw our arse and launched the ball miles thereafter. And on the page, our squad looks like it's a cut above the lowly level our club occupies. But results don't lie, nor do stats. And the stats say we don't do well against direct rivals and/or in pressure games.

Stenhousemuir won today and it's a fair reflection as they're the team who put the ball away. It was a tense affair at times, a low quality affair at times, and at other points an entertaining match not unlike a cup tie.

And Gregor Buchanan has a man bun. It's fine for Blair Malcolm as he's cool. But not for Buchanan as he's not cool.

Unsurprising but disappointing that the frustration of some Sons fans is being vented at opposition players and the match officials.

And we never bottled it or shat it, we simply came up against a well-organised team who eventually carried more threat in the attacking areas; whilst the goal carried a large slice of luck, by that stage it was only going to come at one end of the park.  Unless I was watching the wrong game.

Over the piece we only forced Darren Jamieson to make one save of note, whilst Stenny worked Brett Long on quite a few occasions, mostly due to us allowing Taylor and O'Reilly too much space.  As the game wore on Stenny were breaking at speed whilst we had mostly resorted to hoofball.

A bad result compounded by Finlay Gray limping off.  We just need to keep at it but that's now home defeats to the top two sides, and it's beginning to look like top four may be our most realistic expectation - again.

We're not a bad side, but maybe just not good enough to go on the type of run which will now be required.  As for the verbals towards Buchanan and Lynch, it seems they had the last laugh.

Come on now, old yin, my complaints about the match officials were fair and balanced, as were my muted observations about two beloved ex Sons. Because I'm famously nice.

Buchanan was a good player for us, just don't get on the wrong side of his Da' though, he'll hunt you down.

Lynch is shite but has maybe found his level.

I think his sister and dad were sitting in front of me and @Clarko_son some time ago and weren't very pleased with the criticism he received for a particularly poor performance on said occasion. The poor wee lambs.

  6. Wasn't a classic game, lots of slack play and both teams cancelled each other out a lot. We didn't trouble the Stenhousemuir goalkeeper as every shot we had was wild. Ref and the stand side lino weren't great, but he balanced it out with poor calls for both teams. We lacked cohesion and cutting edge. Aside from a spell midway through the first half when we looked really dangerous. The quality of the game dropped off a cliff towards the end. Stenny's goal came with a bit of luck, but that's what you need to break the deadlock sometimes. Thought Edin Lynch and Gregor Buchanan were needlessly noising up the home support after the goal/full time.

Rusty always struck me as a guy who was going through the motions. Clearly been a good player at one point. Still technically very good. Unfortunately the passion for the game and the willingness to work was long gone. He could have been absolutely lethal in the lower leagues. Very technical. Good with the ball at his feet. More than just a target man to lump the ball forward to. But the application just wasn't there.

He'd be as well giving up. He looks like he'd rather be anywhere other than a football park.

He's not even a target man. He's useless as an aerial target man type striker. Very much a ball to feet type, who just so happens to be tall.

He was useless for us and completely disinterested, except for one spell in one game as Jan V pointed out. He'll probably drop down to the Lowland or WOSL soon enough. Rusty McLean i mean, not Jan.

Just came home from being out and the temp in the car got down to -4.  On our site they seem quite hopeful providing the sun gets on the pitch early doors they reckon it should be ok. One of the bonus,s of not living under a rock 😃

I live 5 miles from The Rock and it's been -4 here all week.

That is how much Stirling got from an away tie at Ibrox the season before last. If there's pish running down your leg over that it's not a champy problem, it's a prostate problem.

Your made up numbers have convinced me. I'm actually sorry we beat Annan now as it's clearly better not to win Scottish Cup games and just hope that one of the toxic twins gift us 10 trillion rupees simply for existing. Thank you for showing me the light.

Yeah you're right. Who would want 400 grand from one game win or lose to improve their side with?   Not when you could make bawbees in a glory game at Buckie.

Can we just take a moment to pish ourselves at how fanciful this comment is? Reminder: champy is not real, nor a reliable source of information.
