  1. Exactly. Perhaps club owners should leard to work within their means from now on and not to rely on something as fluid as gate reciepts. What if the Kilmarnock v Rangers game was scheduled for a Tuesday night, live on telly, in the middle of December, pissing it down and then ended up 2000 down on the crowd they might have got for a sunny September game

What does a football club's "means" entail if they can't use gate receipts for budgetary purposes? If you can't make projections based on something that a club has detailed records for probably going back decades, I can't really see an alternative when you take TV money out the equation. Pie sales are pretty fluid as well depending on the kick-off being moved for TV and what if people don't like the new strip or the local garage can't afford the hoarding they've had for 5 years.

  2. I would hope all Motherwell fans keep an open mind until they have read the material the board provides.

I think that is an important point. If the club are doing the right thing by giving us a vote, it is important that people at least take time to understand the implications of voting either way. I am personally interested to see what kind of shortfall there will be in the opinion of our board and how realistic it would be for that to be mitigated by the support or if we are just going to have to live with severe cutbacks. I am also interested to see what people's personal "threshold" would be - or in other words, how much of a hit to MFC is "too much" for each individual.

  3. http://www.motherwel...-newco-rangers/

As a member of the Well Society (Along with my two sons) I know which way I'll be voting!

    :thumbsdown Off with their heads!

A really praiseworthy step from the club as they will know what the result is likely to be already - they should be rightly praised for their stance and it will hugely strengthen the credibility of the 'Well society I'm sure. It will likely be up to the fans to plug whatever financial gap is created if the "correct" decision is taken and I sincerely hope that everyone that has been vociferous about this is ready to do what they can - I certainly am. Proud of the 'Well and I hope other clubs can do similar in their own circumstances.

  4. There seems to be a strong defence of Rangers/TNR from Motherwell fans.

Is it a sense of sporting justice and fairness, or a lingering fear that their club might be retrospectively punished for shafting creditors too?

What's your basis for that? (I'm assuming you aren't referring to a couple of posters on P&B as your sample, as that would clearly be preposterous). Ask the Motherwell Chief Exec, Director Andrew Wilson or our Media guy Alan Burrows - all of them on Twitter and very responsive - what the overriding feeling amongst 'Well fans is on this - you'll get exactly the same answer as you would from an other club.

And Motherwell being retrospectively punished for exiting admin legally via a CVA 10 years ago - hmmmm - can't see that possibility keeping anyone awake at night quite honestly.

  5. Did anyone hear well supporters rep stating on radio scotland that "if saying no to newco means other spl teams go to the wall that will be the end of scottish football" what a cock. Are motherwell the real new rangers???

I wasn't even aware we had a supporters rep - anyone catch his/her name?

Edited - see this was dealt with above. Still none the wiser :)

  6. why do you think the society will collapse from this? no one i know in the society will abandon it no matter what way we vote. i don't think their is massive correlation between society members and outraged forum posters.

also no one can get their money back now anyway and most people will be fully paid up.

The main point is not really the existing members as such - they have our cash. The 'Well Society has only just passed the initial milestone for incorporation but it still needs a lot more capital before the "overdraft" is fully stocked and the member numbers are sufficient to have enough board places to become a "fan run" club. I am working on the assumption that the vast majority of those signed up so far are the real die-hards in our support, or in other words, the easiest to persuade to part with their cash. The remaining people that we need are likely to made up of some similar diehards that couldn't afford it at the time and "others" who it will be a harder job to persuade. I would imagine that if the main selling point of the scheme is that we get a say in the big decisions around our club, these people will be become a lot harder to persuade if the club acts against the clear wishes of the support in general and the already paid-up members in particular. The clear danger for the 'Well society (and for the club as a whole) is that it is delivered stillborn and stuck with the current insufficient funds and a membership who will lack sufficient seats in the Boardroom to make a real difference.

I am cynical about boycotts and "ah'll no be back" as usually it is an empty threat - but getting people to actively part with their cash and engage with the Society is a different thing altogether - and that is what is at stake here.

  7. A few months ago I was convinced they would wriggle out of it but the more it drags on and the more shit that comes out the more I realise they are utterly utterly fucked and even the corrupt Scottish footballing authorities can't wriggle them out of this. Absolutely brilliant!

I'm in this boat also - I cynically believed that a way would be found for business as usual. I just couldn't conceive of how damaged they have turned out to be and just how many breaches there have been. I can't see, especially after today's announcement how anyone can vote for them in good conscience. To vote yes now would be seen as completely unforgivable by fans of every single club.

  8. Time for the Motherwell fans to ramp up the pressure on their board and tell them they risk empty stands next season and for ever more if they vote to admit a newco.

The problem is that the club will already be highly aware of the fans feelings on Rangers - but given that our Season tickets are already ahead of last season's (record) levels at this point, they won't be feeling the pressure from that direction as much as they might be in another close season. I guess the excitement over Champs League, etc seems to be trumping the Rangers stuff for a lot of 'Well fans.
