  1. It'll be interesting to see how successful The Silmarillion will be as it is far less widely read than The Hobbitt or LotR...
  2. I got the feeling watching the portion of the interview shown on BBC News that BJ has pretty much tired of being PM and has 1 eye on raking in the cash when he resigns, especially with a new sprog on the way...
  3. I disagree with the left wing = authoritarian, right wing liberal (sic) argument regarding attitudes/developments in the pandemic. The right wing arguing for civil liberties is disingenuous, part of it's small/no government credo whereas the debate about where the line between individual/collective freedoms has been a complex issue throughout the pandemic. As an SNP supporter I'm getting progressively more disappointed by their decisions on where these lines should be drawn, but IMO they come nowhere near BJs UKIPlite Tory party (featuring the likes of Patel & Rees-Mogg) who are presently using it to "other" minorities remove rights of protest and reintroduce "suss" laws etc...
  4. Are you suggesting DRoss spilled his seed on the ground? If so he better be careful as his predecessor in this act Onan came to a sticky end in more ways than one!
  5. Isn't history interesting? Well I'll throw another piece into the gumbo - in 1965 when Killie won the league title on Goal Average we lost twice to them 2-0 & 4-0 while we beat your lot 2-1 & had a 0-0 draw in the other game - that's two titles we've denied Hearts.
  6. Fan owned St. Mirren vs Hearts still owned by successful businesswoman Ann Budge , I predict a scoreline that will make Jon Obika happy - it's karma!
  7. JG did well to get the bulk of his business done early getting players he wanted, that's was the first part of the transfer window done successfully. There's obviously a bit of money left over and we're going into the phase where bigger teams are finalising there plans and you're looking to see what bargains are available, my preference at this stage would be to go for younger, hungrier players as we got the experience in back at the start. We're into the season proper now and I'd rather not sell any core players unless one of them "ridiculous offers" come through.

  9. The Sun is saying otherwise... ...erm, that'd be me!
  10. I see Gove has been quoted in the Evening Standard that the government would not stand in the way of IndyRef2 if it is the "settled will" of the people although I suppose that opens up a debate as to what the phrase actually means. Is Gove saying that a repeat of the status quo in the next GE would be a mandate?
  11. Point of interest (to me anyway) - does the penalty count as a shot on target?
  12. Except the law on wearing masks - there goes the moral highground...
  13. Just back from the GPs it's bad news for the NHS, out of 4 in the surgery I was the least overweight person there with a BMI 28.0 - that Robbie Williams has really let himself go and the music Radio2, Razorlight and Wham - if I'd known it was going to be that bad I'd have looked after my health.
  14. Carlisle United were briefly top of Division 1 down south during the early 70s. I worked alongside a guy who kept a copy of the league table in his wallet to show all & sundry...
  15. Reversal of the opening fixture from 2018/19 which we were rather fortunate to win 2-1 due to a defensive howler from you lot. Both had similar results in the LC group sections so this'll be the real deal. Any Saints fan there blow a kiss to Paul McGowan for me....
  16. I'm looking forward to this tie, so far so good but this will be a key indicator as to whether JG really has done good business this summer or not.....
  17. I'm no fan of BJ but I'm kinda shocked at the low key reaction to Cunnings revealing that he and other Vote Leave Spads were looking to oust Johnston just days after the 2019 GE.
  18. With the Group Section of the LC effectively part of pre-season these days it's the correct decision to get these guys game time.
  19. I salute your pedantry but I did say "what was then called League 1", although obviously I should've said First Division. I see @Ranaldo Bairn has beaten me to it.
  20. Not even a defeat but our first home game of 97/98 against Stirling Albion, a 2-2 draw. It was the second season of Tony Fitzpatrick's second tenure in charge, the previous season had seen us finish in a creditable fourth in what was then called League 1 and there was a lot of optimism around Love St.! Anyway Albion scored first but we fought back to lead 2-1, they had a player sent off and those were the days when having used all their outfield subs they had to bring on their reserve goalkeeper to do a headless chicken act upfront. So anyway into the last coupla minutes and we get a corner which they clear and punt past our defenders at the halfway line, their lone forward runs to left hand edge of the box and has two options a wundergoal or slow down and wait to be clattered from behind which duly happened, clear penalty which they scored and held out for the remaining time to leave us trudging out deflated which lasted the rest of Fitzpatrick's time in charge. ******************* For me this game and the death of hope is still the worst I've suffered as a Saints fan, even more so than the "9 man final" where we were actually the better team until that horrific 17 seconds and the H*mm*rby game in 85/86 because on those two occasions we still had a decent top flight team to watch in the next game.
  21. 7 traffic lights on the way home from work - today all 7 were green with 4 changing as we approached!
  22. After Cav winning 4/4 sprint finishes none of the other teams seem to be willing to help him & DQT, it might be that way again on Sunday.
  23. Same 1,2,3 as yesterday - Pogacer's been in control since he took yellow on Stage 8. Cav & 4 team mates bringing up the rear and making sure the master is in top shape for the two sprint stages to come.
