Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread
nelsjfc replied to Kyle's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Assuming a 400-500 POTG and Livingston fans that means a fair few that had already paid for the game didn't bother. Courier reporting less than 300 sold for Saturday -
Definitely the wrong firing in terms in who actually lost that task. Good business plan unveiled already? That said how the boys got away with that mess of a presentation is a miracle. Enjoyed the immature chuckling at "supporting Bradley's meat" though.

Aberdeen v St Johnstone - 8/1/23

Nicest you can say is that's still 0-0. Murphy and Carey barely in the game and May totally isolated. Both them off and Spoony and Clark on please. -

Trying to put a positive spin on it at least we have a LWB and two actual midfielders as the sitting two (though I'd probably have Phillips over McPherson) so at least the shape shouldn't be the mess it was the last couple of games. Cannot see the logic in the return to the 5-2-3 from an attacking POV though. May's been much better alongside a partner and struggled on his own and as others of stated Murphy and Carey haven't shown an awful lot recently to pick themselves over the plethora of options in those positions either. Need both, and particularly Murphy, to provide a lot more effort when we don't have the ball either. -

Well that's depressed me. Seems we get no updates regards players at the moment. No idea this was the case with Montgomery, what's happening with Gallacher or how long Hallberg is out for. Real blow being stuck for another spell of a system that requires wingbacks playing with only one. Agree with others about wanting McGowan back in to midfield but if MacPherson comes in alongside Phillips behind either Wotherspoon/Carey that's still more preferable to Crawford or Murphy playing. Need to get back to having May and Clark closer together and three midfielders that contribute when we don't have the ball. -
St Johnstone v Heart of Midlothian
nelsjfc replied to Tony Wonder's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Not much I disagree with here. Powderpuff midfield to start with and when McGowan goes in to midfield he's already on a booking (I don't think the third goal happens if he's not). Our recovery this season has been based on being more solid in midfield and having two wing backs that carry a threat. Phillips done a decent job the last couple of games of replacing of McGowan in that regards the first point and the decision to go without that to shoe horn Crawford back is was infuriating as it was expected. You cannot be giving goals like that second one tonight away and expect to win games. The initial press that hearts easily played out of was something that happened far too often. Upside is we are actually carrying a threat and really should have scored more. Wright and May both did really well and were enjoyable to watch. -

It's clear down at McDiarmid! Hopefully the fog doesn't descent further. -

Pitch will be playable (but undoubtedly a mess). Beginning to think Fog might be an issue. Hopefully clears this evening. -

Feels a harsh score line. Disappointed its come mainly all the same way - balls in side wingbacks/sides of centre halves. Think centre halves should do more to get back in front at second and third ones. Classic right back at left back feel to the third one. -

Never really got set after Mooy sclaffed that pass in the middle of the pitch. Edit - that will be that then. -

Even before the second goal Impressed with Phillips. Still work to be done with him but looks like a player who could really make that sitting role his own. Overall, thought saints deserved that. Sending off changes things - and Laidlow totally sells his centre half - and allowed likes of Carey and Crawford to get more comfortable possession. I've never been his biggest fan but I doubt you'd want anyone else arriving on to that rebound. Didn't half make it hard on ourselves with the defending in the first half. Wasn't impressed with County at all though. -

That goal gets worse everytime you see it. Considine and Phillips letting the cross come in too. Gordon never looks around him at all. Certainly been a while since we can say the back three has been the issue. Overall play is been okay but you can't gift gilt edged chances and expect to win games -

Slow to get rid of it but Gordon should know where White is the minute the cross comes in. -

It wasn't a great look cancelling that so early and leaving the u18s until this morning tbh. Be happy if they didn't play any other matches there until they got in a position they made the pitch remotely acceptable week on week. -

Has there been a worse triple substitution in history? "Flexibility" what we wanted in the summer apparently -

Oh, absolutely! After that passback and launch I was waiting for the whistle. Odd game. A lot more of the ball then recent games- thought Hallberg was good in that aspect- but a lack of threat without May. Cannot keep Brown at LWB - its madness outside the odd occasion against the OF. Didn't think McLennan offered a lot and Murphy wasn't in the game enough. On the other hand, thought unlucky to lose two goals with the chances St.Mirren made and only found ourselves behind due to a wonder strike. Carrying a threat with the strikers we have though. A goal out of absolutely nothing; a great finish. -

Some strike. Hadn't looked like conceding either. -

Were the pictures we see the same as the VAR? If that still was the opening (similar to the Watt one) it's difficult for the ref not to go for the red. -

Exactly. How on earth does it take that long? Hate the rules as they are. No way should that be a penalty -

What a blow being without May. Assume Wotherspoon not able for three games in a week. Need to see more from Murphy and McLennan tonight - I'd rather have seen Phillips, Max or Crawford start tbh. And Brown back to left back..... At least Matthew's fit. Eta - I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say its McLennan up front with Clark rather than a 5-2-3 again -

Was indeed. Leighton came out his box to header clear and McMahon volleyed in from the touchline. Hasselbainks goal was the one I was going to mention. Add in Chris Millar's effort against United and Momo Sylla vs Rangers.
