  1. IIRC I'm sure the pools people weren't happy about advertising another firm. Don't think it was Ferranti's choice.
  2. I'm sure this would have been discussed way back in the thread, so excuse my laziness on not checking. Are Syngenta planning on using the company name going forward. I distinctly remember Ferranti Thistle being forced to change their name back in 1974 when they joined the 2nd division. Does the SFA have a policy on that, or do the 'Red Bull' clubs kind of negate any such argument now?
  3. Wikipedia credits him with being at Kilsyth Rangers, not 100% on that, that will be why garrellburn asks.
  4. Arniston Rangers were the visitors in 2005 in the 2nd round of the East of Scotland Cup. Sub Kevin Thomas was the match-winner with a 2nd half double to see the BU's through 2-0. The team was: Cairns, Burrows (Thomas), Russell, C Martin, Foster, Murphy, Smith, J Martin (Jeffrey), Winning, O'Boyle (Mooney), Donnelly.
  5. How about 1955...….. Back then, we beat Ormiston Primrose by the only goal in an East of Scotland Cup tie. The scorer went on to play for Liverpool under Bill Shankly. Who was it?
  6. For a teaser, let's go to 2015 and an away match at Armadale. The 'dale side contained several ex BU's but also one who went on to join us. Can you name him?
  7. 1972 now and a match against a side that had just risen from juvenile football the previous season, Livingston United. It was a home League match and ended in a convincing 6-1 win. The goals were shared between six players, Eric Sinclair, Andy Noblett, Ian McQueen, Eric Logan, Willie Brown & Dave McOwat. The team was: Anderson, G Logan, McQueen, Trialist, Frew, Zelman, Sinclair, Brown, E Logan, Noblett (McOwat), Millar
  8. Only Ruari that day of the pair. Shirra played. Fleming was a non-playing sub. Right, too, about Nimmo, Smith and Watt but Devine was missing Wrong about Strickland. No idea about Hissy, if he was registered I don't recall him playing. Yes, he didn't appear until August '14 Yep, he was in their side. He was our keeper that day. Now 8 out of 9
  9. More than one might be needed to answer this teaser. This day in 2012 we travelled to Prestonfield, between the two match squads, how many had or were to play for both clubs (and their names).
  10. Right back to 1951 now and an East of Scotland Cup 3rd round clash with Tranent. This was a replay at Newtown, after the sides had drawn 1-1 a fortnight before. Playing against a strong wind in the 1st half, the BU's defended well and at the break it was 1-1. The 2nd half saw the BU's dominate and come out with a 3-1 win. Willie Gardiner scored twice and R Ronaldson also netted. The team was: Foote, Tennant, McKeeman, Hogg, Thomson, McKie, Kelly, Reid, Gardiner, Steedman Ronaldson
  11. Put simply, Tynecastle moved out of Saughton Park, so the Council doubled the rent for LTHV. Budget then screwed and could not afford to keep their best players.
  12. The teaser takes us to 2013 and a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Sauchie. Two players were red-carded, one from each side. Can you name them? The Sauchie player was a former BU.
  13. We now go to 1991 and a 1st round match in the Peter Craigie Cup at Whitburn. Never an easy place to go at that time, the BU's managed a 2-2 draw with goals from George Allison and Gary Dalton and secured a win 5-4 on penalties. The side was: Kirkwood, Dunleavie, Cheape (Dawson), Purdie, McLean, Malloy, Dalton (Burns), McLennan, Thomson, Fisher, Allison
  14. Well done. Thought this might trip some up but Darren was in front with 19, Hissy behind him on 14.
  15. We teaser going back to a championship winning season 13/14. At this stage, who was the leading scorer?
  16. In 1947 Volunteer Park, Armadale, was the setting for the East of Scotland Cup semi-final against Bathgate Thistle. It's reported a crowd of 4000 attended in bright sunshine, to see the BU's win by the only goal 1-0. The winning goal was scored by Willie Dickson, although another by Anderson was ruled out for an 'earlier infringement'. The team was: Stanners, W. Mitchell, Brash, Paton, Stewart, McKie, McGowan, Dickson, Anderson, Pryde, McLean
  17. Came from juvenile side Edinburgh Waverley. Played 28 games for us, scoring 4 goals, in 51/2.
  18. Which young player appeared as a sub this day in 2015, in a 0-0 draw at Fauldhouse.
  19. In 1992, Bathgate Thistle were the visitors on League business but were sent packing by 3-0. Eric Ewing hit a double and the scoring was completed by an own goal. The team was: Kirkwood, Davidson, Meldrum, Dunleavie, McLean, McLennan (Thomson), Dalton (Allison), Ewing, Cheape, Neil, Burns
