  1. It was a club called Bangor Abbey. We beat them 4-1 with two goals from Willie Gardiner, one from Willie Morrison and the other an own goal from the left-back White. If only we could have found Welsh opponents to complete the series!
  2. It's not an Irish league team, although the first name can be found in teams in Ireland and Wales. The second name would appear to have a more religious connection (not sectarian).
  3. To continue the friendly teaser theme. In 1950, 2 days after the Sheffield game we met Irish opposition. Any offers on their name?
  4. On this day in 1999, the BU's paid a visit to Stoneyburn in the Fife & Lothians Cup 4th round. The headline in the Journal said it all ' Rainbow show by Bo'ness Utd '. The BU's were on a goal spree winning 8-1. Playing in a howling gale & driving rain, the scores were level at half-time but Bo'ness took full advantage of the conditions in the 2nd 45, with one goal coming from a wind -assisted kick from 'keeper Neil Binnie. 'Sheep' McKinlay netted four and Steve Maskrey, Darryl Drew and Jimmy Burns also scored. The team was: N Binnie, Smith, Hallford, Yates, McCavanagh, Drew (Grant), Swanson, Hoggan, Burns, McKinlay, Maskrey (Stewart)
  5. Nothing to do with Bo'ness, I know but I've always loved the name of North East of England club Billingham Synthonia!
  6. Well done. A really random opponent. Looks like an 'old boys' team. Shout out to Desmond for being so close
  7. You are so close. That is in the title of the team, certainly.
  8. I have another friendly match for today. Played in 1971, the BU's again lined up against English opposition. If anybody can name them, I'll be most impressed. To maybe shoogle some cobwebs in the brain, the score was 8-2 to the BU's and there were seven different scorers. Eric Logan got a double, the rest came from Dave McOwat, George Cunningham, Colin Alexander, Eric Sinclair, Jimmy McGregor and a Hamish Simpson penalty.
  9. 1983 and we have a Junior Cup 6th round tie at home to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. The BU's triumphed 2-0 through goals from Robert Beaton & Tom Balanowski and were drawn to play Auchinleck in the semi's. The team was: Kirkwood, Dunleavie, Breen, Wilson (Young), Forster, Wilkes, Shields, Balanowski, Beaton (Dunn), Miller, Reid
  10. Can I also mention the info provided recently by John Spowart. This has meant another two results have been removed (and two amended) from the missing list and we are now down to a handful. Cheers John
  11. They had a small tour up here in 1950, even playing Kilmarnock. We beat them 3-1 with George Dick scoring a couple and Willie Gardiner getting the other. Got another couple of 'interesting' friendlies up my sleeve for the days ahead!
  12. No, this lot have a legitimate claim to it. Clue is it was a friendly against an English club from the North.
  13. Doubt any of you will have been at the teaser game but just a wee test anyway. Back in 1950 the BU's hosted the 'oldest' club in the world and won 3-1. Who were they?
  14. Brown Cup Semi-Final time in 1978 and the opponents were Tranent, who had home advantage. This did not stop the BU's as they reached the final by 2-1. Tom Balanowski and an Ian Miller penalty did the needful. The side was: Ferguson, Robertson, McNulty, Stewart, Taylor, Miller, Anderson, Balanowski, McQueen, Craw, Eddie subs Shields, Breen
  15. Always difficult to legislate for trialists. I try to capture as many names as possible but not always available. So he may have turned out in those circumstances.
  16. The teaser today not too far back, just 2012. On this day we played Musselburgh at Olive Bank in the League. Our 1-0 win was secured by which player?
  17. 1990 now and Bathgate Thistle were the visitors to Newtown Park on League business. The home side ran out convincing winners by 3-0, to notch a sixth successive win. Goals came from George Allison, Gary Dalton & Russell Cheape. The team was: Kirkwood, Dunleavie, Malloy, Purdie, McLean, Allison, Dalton (Ewing), McLennan, Fisher, Cheape (Dawson), Kneeshaw
  18. Only McPherson I have on record for us is Dean in 2001.
  19. That's him John. He had just arrived from Camelon.
  20. 2002 and a home League match with Musselburgh Athletic. The BU's easily won 4-1 but it was to prove the last win of the season, meaning the club missed out on the inaugural East Superleague. Doubles from David Muirhead & Gary Higgins secured the win. The team was: N Binnie, Ryan, Loney, Yates, King, Muirhead, Abbott (Black), Mooney, Higgins (Rennie), Ward, Wood
  21. To test you out today, we go back to 2011 and a very good 1-0 win at Newtongrange. Who made his debut as a substitute that day?
  22. 1976 sees a game that is fondly remembered among many BU fans! The Junior Cup Semi-Final, held at Brockville, against Lanark United. The BU's steamrollered their opponents 5-0 to reach the Final. Billy Mitchell & Willie Temperley both scored doubles, with an Ian Miller penalty completing the rout. The team that day was: Ferguson, J McQueen (McIntosh), McGuinness, Miller, I McQueen, McGeachie, Scobie, Balanowski, Mitchell, Anderson, Temperley sub Robinson
